I recently went from a dark purple to this hot pink I currently have. It involved bleaching my hair twice with bleach from the drugstore (which I do not reccomend anybody do!)
It would only bleach to an orangey blonde and it was green at the ends from all the colour build up but luckily the pink overpowered that.
And I lost a lot of hair in the process, thank god I had a lot to spare.
Anyway if you've got dark hair and have never bleached it on your own before I would reccomend going to a salon for it because the stuff you buy at the drugstore might not do the trick (and may also fry your hair!) -

Well I tend to rip it all down and start over but my current walls have been up for like a year and a half and I just keep adding to them.
