Oh noooo I'm not! It's just post-con empty! I had a con about a month ago and I've been a little busy so I haven't had a lot of time to reopen it!

I think that if you do it right, it's just perfect. It wouldn't exactly be a completely unique idea though XD As many brand pieces that are released are indeed inspired by the 50's, 60's, and even 80's http://egl.livejournal.com/7439057.html

Although the 70's aren't listed on that dress, a lot of "basic" lolita dress details are call-backs to the 70's Victorian Revival trend. Take a look at some of the infamous Gunne Sax dresses and you will see a lot of the same details when it comes to placement of lace, ribbons, and tiers. Of course, these are influenced by the Victorian era, but I really do believe that Lolita gets them in a more direct way from the Victorian Revival of the 70's, considering that was the fashion movement that slow worked it's way into the different fashions that Lolita eventually branched off from. I talk a bit about it here http://fyeahlolita.blogspot.com/2010/02/old-school-lolita-in-90s-80s-and-70s.html. Sorry if I got sort of off track XD But I've been wanting to make a post about the Victorian Revival's influence on Lolita for so long now XD

Ahehm, anyways! I think you can definitely do it! Lolita can be pretty much influenced by just about anything and work, so long as you know what you're doing!

Artist trading cards! There is another term people use for what are basically the same thing that I always forget the name of! It basically is just a trading card sized piece of art, that you trade with other artists!

It depends 100% on the cutsew. It's pretty impossibly to say all or even most cutsews will stretch to a certain amount, and you also have to take into account the fact if there is a design on the cutsew. True, you can stretch jersey knit over it's "maximum" width, but if there's a print on it, it's going to get stretched and maybe even crackle. You also have to take into account the other parts of a cutsew that aren't just the bust measurment. For example, you may very well fit several cm over the cutsews max, but the arm holes aren't really going to stretch, pretty much at all sometimes, so you might need to stick to sleeves that are gathered with elastic or long sleeves.

When I had a bust of 100cm, I could easily wear pretty much any cutsew from h.Naoto, I only had 1 from them that ended up being too small. Putumayo was also an almost guarantee fit for me too, but they are known for making baggier clothing, and I had a Baby cutsew bolero that was fine. I really only ever had problems with cutsews that had small sleeves, like pretty much anything with what I've always known as a princess sleeve (It's like a sleeve that's puffy at the top, but then has a seam that goes into a regular straight sleeve?) was out of the question.

At the moment, I'm about 93cm and I haven't had a problem with cutsews, and I've added BtSSB and Meta to my cutsew collection. But again, this is because I check the measurements and use my best judgement before buying. I do not believe that I'm squeezing into them even XD Many of the ones I have fit like a standard medium babydoll tee.

I would say that it is easy to find cutsews that will fit up to a 90cm bust easily, but you really have to use your better judgement and take in all of the other details of the cutsew to know if it will actually fit you.

I actually have a whole Old School Lolita tag http://fyeahlolita.blogspot.com/search/label/old%20school%20lolita (and the tag "old school" which only has one post on it because I mistakenly used it as a tag)

This post http://fyeahlolita.blogspot.com/2011/01/bringing-back-old-school.html is about a year old but it deals with updating the Old School style a bit!

Stockings or socks? Generally, I think white is the most Country Lolita feeling color to me. I don't think many Country Lolita coordinates use stockings though. I think you should mostly worry about what looks best with your outfit, rather than what is the most common for the substyle. Without seeing the outfit in question it's very difficult to say what kind of stockings are best.

26! I feel so oooooold! I first learned about Lolita when I was 16 or something. It's seriously been so long I don't actually remember.

I've posted a bit about it here! http://www.fyeahlolita.blogspot.com/2011/03/wearing-lolita-in-public.html

Generally your best bet is to ignore people in a sort of passive way, such as wearing headphones (actually listening to music is optional! The point is just to LOOK like you can't hear anyone), pretending to be interested in something happening on your phone, reading a book of thumbing through a magazine, or even just being with another person are all good excuses to "not notice" what other people are saying to you.

Ignoring people works best if you have a prop (headphones, a book, etc.) and if you can quickly move on, in a natural looking way, afterwards. If you're shopping, it's super easy, just keep walking! But if you're seated somewhere you might want to consider getting up and moving elsewhere if you can, the further away the better, or in a "safe" zone, such as near some sort of authority figure (a bus driver, a cashier, closer to a teacher's desk, basically anyone who has the power to kick the person annoying you out).

If you're at the point, or in a situation, where ignoring the person is just not possible, like they are actively engaged in talking to you and you are not comfortable saying "This is just the particular clothes I choose wear" an option is just to joke about it or be sort of evasive about what you're wearing. People honestly don't always assume you're wearing weird clothes because you LIKE to wear them, people seem to immediately jump to the conclusion that Lolitas are wearing Lolita because they are either in a play or part of some sort of square dancing group. If they make a lame joke about lost sheep, instead of getting angry you can always just give a simple "Haha, yeah I can't seem to find them" or if they ask why you're dressed the way you are you can always just sort of pass it off with a "I just came back from an event" vague answer.

If you are worried about verbal abuse turning physical the best thing you can do is just to not escalate the situation by being aggressive back, even if it's a very minor and totally warranted "Mind your own business" thing. Joking or just having an excuse (even if it's a lie) for why you're dressed weird is usually all it takes. It really sucks that sometimes this is the situation, and it should never be something anyone has to deal with, but, sadly, it is. People who want to start shit will look for any excuse to do so, and it's someone who dresses "weird" is often the perfect target for people like that.

I wear Lolita a lot, for a long time, and in a lot of different situations and luckily I've never had it escalate to anything even slightly physical, I like to think that this is because I am pretty good at ignoring people.

Not nessicarily. With anything, it 100% depends on what it looks like and what the rest of the outfit looks like. Metamorphose has released some gorgeous Lolita dresses that have the usual design of a Lolita dress but are made with traditional Japanese styled fabric.

It's mostly going to depend on the quality of the fabric, the overall design, the cut of the dress, and the quality of any lace or trims. If it's something like that polyester silk stuff with dragons on it that you can buy around Halloween at fabric stores, then there is a good chance the dress can easily fall into the Ita category, unless it's of a particularly stunning design and constructed incredibly well. If you're unsure in your design and construction (say it's your first big sewing project, the design and fit is very simple, and you're making it on a budget) it's best to stay away from the kind of fabrics most people think of as faux-asian.

If you're lucky enough to get your hands on some fabric like the one shown in this post http://www.craftycrafty.tv/2009/01/sourcing_materials_authentic_j.html I think you can make a stunning dress out of it!

The difficult thing about writing a post about offbrand finds from mall shops is that they change their stock almost constantly! I can never even find the same stuff that's on their sites in the stores by the time I get there, so making a post about offbrand finds at places like Forever 21 or H&M might not really be that useful to anyone after about a month! I have started writing about general tips on how to find good offbrand finds in places like these but have sort of abandoned the post, maybe I'll start it back up again?

Personally, I think if you can find good offbrand pieces from places like these that's absolutely awesome! Offbrand pieces from unlikely places can add a lot of uniqueness to an outfit. I have a lace underskirt I wear with Classic Lolita from Forever 21 that looks really pretty, and a leopard bustier from the same shop that's not exactly Loliable but I love wearing it with Lolita anyways, as well as a handful of accessories from H&M.

But honestly, I can never find much outside of generic accessories from places like these. They usually end up costing even more than offbrand Lolita shops and the quality isn't always that great or something might not be quite right (like the perfect Lolita blouse that I'm sure all of us have picked up offbrand but ends up being too awkwardly sheer to wear as anything other than an under-a-jsk blouse but not sheer enough to pretend it's supposed to be that way).

A lot of these places are completely intended to be "throw away" shops, meaning after a season of wear, and when the piece is no longer in style any more, you just toss it in the garbage, because it's falling apart by then anyways. I am not even just being a bratty elitist or something like that, a search for "disposable clothes" and the shop name will turn up a lot of discussions on the subject.

However, if the pieces are part of a Lolita wardrobe that is not worn on a daily basis and you take particularly good care of the clothes, you can make them last longer, but for the most part, the quality of clothes from trendy mall shops absolutely reflect the throw-away aspect of them. I also don't feel 100% comfortable supporting throw-away clothes stores. I'm not nearly enough against them to boycott them or something like that, but whenever I go to browse them the thought is always in the back of my mind, and I end up leaving with nothing. I've actually had a Forever21 gift card in my wallet for nearly a year! I should probably just blow it on tights and accessories before it expires.

I am almost positive that The Cure is a band that everyone enjoys. I honestly can't think of a single person who didn't at least admit to enjoying SOME Cure songs. Don't worry about what other people think about them :) they're a fantastic band!

You might want to bring it to a dry cleaner. Faux fur can usually use a light wiping down, but if you wash it in a machine, or too vigorously by hand, you can really make the fur matted and weird looking.
