so if you dont want to read the whole thing, basically he had cancer


so in grade 4 when i was about 9 or 10, my dad got really sick and was in bed for more than 3 months with 105+ degree fahrenheit fevers, he wasnt eating and lost more than 50 pounds, and couldnt move. my mom was never home so me and my sister had to try to feed him and care for him everyday when we were at home. after the 2nd week of fevers, my mom took my dad to the hospital, but they couldnt find anything life threatening or too dangerous. so they sent him home. about a week later, my dads nose bone started deteriorating and his skin was eaten away. but we didnt know why.
so my mom took him back, and this time they ran blood tests, mris, cat scans etcetc. and finally found out that he had CANCER. STAGE 3 NON-HODGKINS LYMPHOMA that was extremely rare.
my mom and dad didnt tell me and my sister what was going on, but we knew something was wrong, cause where i was living, the house my room had this vent that where you could listen into my moms office where she made all her calls. i heard her sobbing and telling people what was wrong but they were very muffled words. but one that kept coming up was cancer, cancer, he has cancer.
so i had to confront my mom and she told me right on the spot. my dad went through chemotherapy, so he lost all of his hair. radiation, it left permanent burn scars on his face, and of course surgery to repair the lost bone and skin that was on his face. he went through more than 6 surgeries to repair it and make it look like he had a nose again.
even though it still doesnt look like my nose, or your nose, or a perfect nose, it was the best they could do. so all that happened over the period of grades 4-7 and is now in remission for a year :)
hes gotten through so much and stayed strong through the whole thing. he made a blog on caringbridge talking about his journey of his battle against cancer.
even though he is safe from cancer, he is now struggling with some other issues that are more personal that im not comfortable discussing on formspring
the only reason why im posting this here is because, that experience made me stronger and has taught me a lot of things

and i know that i almost lost my dad
but i didnt lose him, he stayed strong for me and my family
and im so glad he stayed with me
im truly, truly thankful for that.

we aren't friends but hopefully ive cleared the air? :/
