Do you think that a comic, or game series, or movie franchise etc. has a point where its fanbase becomes so large and loyal, that anything the creator does that the fans don't like can be justifiably condemned because the fans 'own' it? my answer: fuck n
I'm not sure if I agree or not, but this just makes me think of Star Wars. The originals were pretty good, but every consecutive new "version" makes the entire fanbase scream rage, usually for good reason. I guess if something becomes so popular in the first place it was good in the first place and the fans have a reason to get upset about change. Doesn't necessarily always make the fans right, though.
I really have no answer here I'm just talking at this point.
