What is it about Illyana 'Magik' Rasputin, that drew you to include her among Uncanny's core cast? Do you believe that she truly does want redemption?
(I left this question for a while, because I knew I couldn't really answer it until I was able to talk about Uncanny freely)
To be boringly prosaic, part of it was absolutely her power-set. I want a team that hangs together conceptually. If I had the X-men, who would I choose to be on my team? I need transport. The best transporter in the whole of the X-men (hell, possibly the whole of the MU) is Magik. She'd probably be in on that alone.
(There's also her skills in Magic itself. As Scott says in Fear Itself, it's not actually what the X-men normally do. Illyana's the exception. Occasionally they'll have to deal with magic, and they need a specialist.)
Secondly, that she's got the past history of villainry plays into the theme of the book. The world would be more scared of a team with Magik on than - say - Pixie.
Thirdly, I was just really interested in her current status quo. She was a reconstruct of someone. She did something that was incredibly, incredibly dangerous for purely selfish reasons. She got most of her soul back. So... who is she now? By definition, she isn't the same person who did that thing. Who is she now *really*? How can we be sure? That's all kinds of dramatically interesting.
Fourthly, her relationship with Colossus works in terms of team dynamics. Put aside the fact she's his sister. She's been through something more than a little akin to what Colossus is going through. If there was such a thing as Demonics Anonymous, she'd be his sponsor.
Fifthly, I just loved the visual of the X-men just appearing in the middle of a crisis zone, stepping out of one her disks. I mean - look at that first image in the preview, with the X-men appearing with a bloody pentagram hanging over them. That's charged imagery in all kinds of ways. -
Will you marry me?
Kind of an odd question to ask anonymously... I'd be interested in how that would work out.
The concept of marriage is a difficult one for me. As a happily openly bisexual man - the idea that my country will allow me to marry half the people I could fall in love with and not the other half is severely problematic. As a man who is in a committed and amazing relationship I want to have the party but don't necessarily need the government involved in ratifying it...
I know that's a fairly complicated response to your proposal... But it's a big question and I feel we need to discuss it fully before jumping in... ;-) -
Just checking. Post Schism, the teams split into those people who enjoyed Crooked Little Vein and those people who didn't, yes?
The Venn diagram of Own At the Club/Like Crooked Vein pretty much explains everything about the Schism.
