honestly, i don't know all that much about that sort of season-related color theory. i think the last time i looked at that subject, i was in middle school or something (late 80s??). perhaps i should take a look at it again one of these days! the only thing i remember about learning about it was that i didn't like the colors that went with the season i was placed into (which one, i cannot remember!) but loved the ones associated with fall! beyond that, my further knowledge/recollection concerning the subject amounts to nil.

i didn't end up felting my yellow granny square blanket, i left it as is.

when i have felted items, i basically just washed them in hot water in my washing machine, tossed them into the dryer if needed, and crossed my fingers hoping they shrunk some as result!

i know there's more of a science to it, i'm not really a big expert on felting! i'd advise googling around to get directions on how to felt successfully.

      good luck!

to be clear, i think he takes pretty pictures. he does have a good eye and is technically very good with a camera. but two things kind of bother me. one, i think he focuses a little too much on fashion insiders, etc. and i feel he is generally not particularly articulate (there are exceptions, though, see one of my recent blog entries! haha.)...

one big thing that bothered me: a post he did a year or so back when he pondered "making over" a gal he met on the street who allegedly wasn't up to sart snuff...i.e. giving her a makeover so she'd ostensibly then be "sartorialist worthy". he came off as incredibly elitist in the post and in the subsequent comment shitstorm...and also seemed to have a lot of problems in articulating himself as well, sometimes contradicting what he said multiple times.

if i don't look at his words or the fawning comments i'm usually ok looking at his photos. :P

tough one! choosing to go in either direction would have it's pros and it's cons. i think my gut reaction is to go back, go into the past. to see how things really were in past times, to see how life was lived and view with my own eyes how specific events went down. it would also be neat to get to re-view events from my own life, especially the fun/meaningful ones!

i guess, in a very basic way.

being very busty i always try to make sure i have a well-fitting bra at all times, if at all possible. i get myself re-measured yearly, because it can change with life changes (i.e. having babies, etc.)/weight loss or gain, etc. sadly, i usually have very plain undergarments, because so little nice stuff is available the bigger you are.

as far as make-up, when going out i generally always make sure to have some on, foundation, concealer, powder, blush, a little mascara. i love color but not as much on my face for everyday wear. maybe it's because i wear so much color on my body?

yes, i have it already (pre-ordered it from amazon last week). haven't had a chance to really scour it yet, but generally i think it's pretty fun. i love how she shows you how you can make so many different styles from just a few basic dresses.

it's but one of a bunch of books that seems to have come out in recent years, that illustrate how to design your own customized clothing, either from your measurements or by altering ready-made patterns using given instructions. i really like this movement in books, i hope that more and more of this kind of thing gets published. it's the personalization of clothing and clothesmaking taken to the next level. kind of reminds me also of all the japanese clothesmaking books...i wish there was something more like that in the west. this is closest approximation to those and, in general, the idea of it is awesome, imo.

any major city, really. the creative types seem to congregate there...and that's where things are most interesting.

new york would be my favorite fashion city, hands down. checking out what people are wearing on the L is particularly fun. it's the line that cuts through williamsburg (brooklyn) and the east village and connects with union square, so people are coming from all over and they are insanely stylish.

i also loved paris, and london for fashion...especially the latter. london is mindblowingly innovative, stylewise.

if i ever start a label, it will be small, i.e., something with very small, handmade runs and available in small boutiques, etsy, etc. i am not interested in starting a major fashion business; such things are ventures that require a lot of capital and time investment. if i do make things and sell them it will be limited and artistic, if nothing else.

i have some book ideas in the works, stay tuned.

as for long term professional goals, the thing i want to do most at this juncture is to return to school to get a masters or PHD in some kind of fashion studies/fashion history/cultural studies/sociological thing (i.e. fashion & culture, maybe) and then probably teach. and make stuff on the side. while i love designing and making fashion, i love thinking/pondering fashion almost as much if not more. i am planning on trying to return to school in the next couple years.

I am little surprised i'm going to end up greenwich, myself! your impression of greenwich is probably pretty accurate.

but it's where my husband will be working as of march, so in an effort to make things easy on our whole little fam and cut down commute times, etc., we decided to look for a place to live in greenwich. yes, it's preppy. yes, i am a creative type. and it's not my first choice of places to live, but sometimes ya gotta roll with the punches/go with the flow, and i do have a family and their needs to also consider. i can still be creative...greenwich will not squash that part of me.

i'm trying to see the positive in the move/in greenwich itself: it's smallish, it's fairly close to NYC (25 miles-ish, i can go in when i want), i can ride my bike to a lot of stuff (including the store, beach, library, some shopping stuff, park for my kiddo, etc.). it's also cheaper than NYC, we get more space...and it's quieter.

ooooh. tough one! i am not sure i have a specific favorite...there are many pieces of clothing and footwear that mean a lot to me. and there are typically momentary favorites...i.e., favorites du jour. a piece that gets a lot of wear and has for years has been my acid-washed straight skirt, that has these faint stripes on it. i've had it since about 2005, i found it at a jacksonville, florida thrift store for ONE DOLLAR. it's getting threadbare but i still love it and wear it. i think it may be time to do some machine darning on it or something, to extend it's life. such a thing might help make it last a bit longer.

as for momentary faves, i'm really into these electric blue frye carson cowboy-looking boots i found a couple weeks ago at nordstrom's rack here in chicago. and i'm obsessed with my bright orange swedish hasbeen superhigh clog sandals, but i cannot wear them much yet because it's been disgusting and snowy for the past two months or so. can't wait for spring so i can wear them!

likely not. i think poppy will be our only child. yes, sure, i could change my mind later, but she's really enough for us for now. also, i'm 35 this year, getting a bit late, methinks. at least for me. also, her birth and first year were fairly challenging and i'm still recovering from all that, and reticent to go through it again, at least anytime soon. but waiting really isn't a good idea either (see being 35). so, again, probably not.

i wish i could think of something somehow better but the first thing that came to mind is when a cowl fetishist (someone REALLY into cowls for some inexplicable reason) emailed me via flickr in the past couple weeks and asked me if they could buy one of my old dresses that happened to have a cowl neck. what?? um, absolutely not.

unrelatedly, but sort of annoying: i often get questions as to whether my daughter is mine, especially when i'm out during the day. she looks more like her dad than like me, but just because she's not my spitting image doesn't mean i didn't birth her or that i am her nanny or something. i think it's better to assume a child is related to it's caretaker unless it's really obvious that they are not.
