In the pulpit while I was preaching. I was using my iPhone to control my slideshow when someone called. Luckily (as Calvin would say) it was on vibrate and place on a rubber mat, so no one knew. But it did knock me out of my slideshow control app. So I had to keep preaching while fumbling with the interface to get back to my slideshow. Learned the importance of "airplane mode" that Sunday! :-)

Dispensationalism is fundamentally a way of reading the Bible. It assumes that the Old Testament can and should be interpreted on its own, without input from the New Testament. The NT may add additional revelation, but the meaning of the OT text (as understood by the original readers) doesn't change and cannot be added to.

When one approaches the Bible in this manner, certain assumptions automatically follow. For example, one will assume that God has (at least) two programs at work: one for Israel and one for the Church. When one realizes that Israel and the Church are not the same, it follows that the promises to Israel in the OT are still valid and physical. Therefore, there is a future Kingdom that revolves around the nation of Israel.

This space is too limited to discuss all the ramifications of Dispensationalism. Nevertheless, if one accepts the OT as the original readers would have read it, one will come to Dispensational conclusions.
