No, I don't actually consume any drugs (other than alcohol). I'm aware there is a strong argument to suggest that some drugs can take your mind to places that it might not have got to whilst sober. I'm just not into them really.

Rollerball pens - About 80 (maybe more?)
Marker pens - About 15 -
No I've never been to one.
I think that people who take fortune tellers and horoscopes seriously are so fucked up, they should be collected together and sent to live on a separate island. -
Always from reference.
Sometimes I draw rough stuff or doodles straight out of my head, but if it's a 'proper' illustration, I always work from photographic reference. -
I am inspired by everything I see around me all the time.
The process of starting a job differs greatly depending on what the job is.
It could be simply reading an article, coming up with a couple of ideas and then getting one approved and doing it.
If there's a lot of creative thinking involved, I like to do it out of the studio and away from my desk. I'll print out the brief, then go to a cafe or a pub with a sketchbook and a pen and empty my thoughts onto the page. Eveything get's written down, no matter how shit it might be, as it might spark off something else which turns into a brilliant idea.
Sometimes I can get stuck thinking over the same thing for a week, then suddenly you have a eureka moment in the bath or taking a piss and that's it, you've got your brilliant idea.
If it's something that needs researching, the internet is the greatest and easiest tool. Sometimes just simply doing a google image search for a word can throw up a few obvious starting points for an idea. -
(Real examples from this)
How big is your penis?
I love you.
Do you pee in swimming pools?
Do you smoke weed everyday? -

There are so many good things to collect, but if I had to choose my all time favorite, it'd have to be vintage postcards.
They're so exciting because the front gives you a snapshot of history, of what a place looked like at a certain time, and the back (if it's used) can have an incredible story on it from a stranger that can be fascinating or just plain funny. -
Cheers.
I'm not sure if it's about playing it safe really, I just think it's one of those things where some people work better with an agent and some work better without. A lot of people need an agent because they're creative geniuses but they haven't got a clue how to do business and deal with people. -
Generally I tend to be a bit too expensive for private commissions.
The tricky thing is this: The amount I get paid for an illustration in the commercial world would be quite an elaborate amount to spend on a birthday present for someone. So when people ask me to do a private commission for them I either have to turn it down because I don't want to charge them too much or I end up offering to do the job for about a quarter of what I'd normally charge. It's a tricky one, because it's lovely to make nice pictures for people and not overcharge them, but then people also need to realise that this is my job and my livelyhood.
So by offering to do jobs for 'ordinary people' at a friendly price is not very good business for me.
It's weird because I'll happily rinse a global company for everything they've got but I get this natural overwhelming sense of guilt about charging a high fee to an 'ordinary person'. I shouldn't though really, I mean how often to people ask a plummer or an electrician to lower their prices. I'm no different really, just providing a service.
Please do get in touch though, send me an email with what you had in mind and we can talk about it.
If you're wondering why these answers are getting so long and comprehensive, it's because I'm on a 3 hour train journey, with nothing better to do! -
I was studying graphic design (a 3 year course) and at the end of the first year we had to decide whether to specialize in graphic design or move over into illustration. I didn't have a clue what I should be doing so the tutor got the rest of the class to have a vote. They unanimously voted in favour of me doing illustration (thank fuck for them!) so I headed in that direction from that point on.
It took 5 or 6 years from that point to decide that it was something I could make a career out of. -
Someone who I really admire and let's me do what I want for them. The Mighty Boosh are a really good example of a perfect client because I like what they do and they treat you well.
-
Cheers. If I do some more proper 'art' like that then yeah sure, but a step by step progression of me making an illustration in Photoshop would be rather dull I think.

Not often. Do people ever give you a hard time for having fat legs and a fucking weird forehead?
