I am VERY picky about what best represents my work and my clients, so I choose carefully... lol! I do a first round and cull everything that is out of focus, blinks, funny faces, etc. Then I edit the rest and select the images that are the cream of the crop (eliminating duplicates, etc.) I find that this makes the process so much easier for clients!

The best part is easy... getting to meet and photograph so many great families and little ones, being my own boss, getting to be creative everyday. The worst? I love running my own business but it is HARD. There is so much time and effort that goes into keeping the ship afloat and it can be exhausting and stressful. It is hard to not be able to ever take a day off... your mind and efforts are always on your business. And taxes. That is the worst, hands down.

Most consumer cameras come equipped with a pop up flash. While it is great for quick snapshots, that is where its usage should end! Pop up (or on board) flash creates harsh shadows, shiny skin and the very unattractive "pinlights", or tiny dots of lights, in the eyes of your subject. Natural light is much flattering and will take your images from an amateur snap to a pleasing photograph.

It really depends on the subject. When I first started, I spent a LOT of time, but now I am able to get the images nearly perfect straight out of the camera, so they just need a little "polish". For the average session, I spend about 1-2 hours editing. Newborn sessions take a bit longer to remove redness, scratches, acne, etc.

First of all, I am a horrible teacher (trust me). Second of all, the business keeps me really busy so unfortunately, my schedule doesn't permit at this time. There are lots of wonderful resources out there, whether you want to just photograph your kids or do something bigger. Just please (please!) take the time to learn your craft if you do have aspirations of being a photographer.

In my opinion, it is important to stick to what you are good at, and not dilute your talent. I love working with kids and I love being a "specialist" at what I do. While I looove wedding photography, it is just not what I would be good at. So, I will be sticking to little ones... at least for the forseeable future!

My favorite point&shoot (pocket) camera is the Canon G10. It is a great every day camera, with a lot of functionality! If you are looking to an SLR, both Canon and Nikon have entry level cameras (the Rebel and the D40, respectively) that I believe are under $600. Both are great!

That is a loaded question! So much goes into it. General rules of thumb: Seek out good light (not too harsh or dark), turn off your flash, and get on her level. I also recommend devouring your camera manual!

Practice, patience, practice and more patience! It's taken me a while to get really comfortable with newborns, and I've learned some tricks in that time. The key really is following their lead. A full belly and a toasty house certainly helps! :)

Kids under 12... but even more specifically, babies 9-12 months. If I could JUST photograph them, I'd be golden!
