Because fictional characters have no control over the physical world.

Bad things happen to good people because an individuals morals or deeds are very minor factors in determining events that occur in their lives. Also if only good things were to happen to people, it'd lead to tedium and words like "good" would lose meaning since there'd be nothing to compare it to.
