In my experience, the only way to get people to our gigs was because there was a connection to the band. There had to be a story about the band, as we couldn't get on the radio (and this was pre-internet - yes I'm very old) so people would come if they'd seen a RAD poster or heard of us through mates.
Think about it on a bigger scale even now? What sets one band apart from another aside from music? It's STORY. A story changes everything about a band.
The best part? Some of the biggest bands in the world have written their own stories, yet sometimes these stories had nothing to do with reality.. but no one seemed to mind... -

That I had achieved supreme Buddha-like humility and that all was good. I am a long way from this with my current career path, mind you.
