Hi Suzanne! Well...if you want my honest advice...I wouldn't dare go to Germany and leave my good camera at home! Instead of investing in another camera, I would invest in a great comfy camera bag that I could use as a purse as I did my tourist thing :) Camera bags are *awesome* now and I can definitely recommend some great ones :)
But...if taking your good camera really isn't an option, getting a point & shoot really depends on your price range. Sony is a great brand, as well as Canon and Nikon is catching up. Nikon just came out with a new line of Coolpix cameras (and they are cute too!) Don't worry about megapixels, anything over 6mp will print bigger than poster size beautifully and all the new cameras these days are at least 10 and above. I would focus on size, weight, size of LCD screen, make sure it has a flash and even a movie mode (just in case!)
I would look into this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/754891-REG/Nikon_26249_Coolpix_S9100_Digital_Camera.html
or this cheaper Sony: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/750075-REG/Sony_DSCW560_DSC_W560_Digital_Still_Camera.html
I hope that helps!
