I know why they did it because Cena is the top star and they feel he should be in the top spot. In a perfect world, they would have booked things differently so the Chamber matches didn't feel so secondary but that's just how things worked out.

From WWE's perspective, they probably see the Tag Titles and US Titles as filler so they might as well do something else. Of course, the Tag Titles and US Titles don't HAVE to be filler but that's what I believe WWE currently see them as.

I expected Daniel Bryan to retain once the news got out that Randy Orton wouldn't make the PPV. I do see your point about Bryan and WWE might feel that way too. Because of this, I'm not ruling out the possibility of Orton being added to the match and making it a triple threat.

I believe it was the episode of RAW in May 1999 that had no competition since Nitro was preempted.

Maybe they are still hopeful they can get Jennifer Hudson to do something with the company, who knows.
