Book! There are very few novels that make me literally laugh out loud, and High Fidelity is one of them. That man has a gift.

I do love Cusack, like anyone with a vagina.

This might be gross, and after I write this I might totally go back and be like, "What? No way." But this is what sounds good to me right now..

Banana bread cupcake, with like, little chunks of mushy banana in it. With mini chocolate chips.
Icing = white butter cream perhaps? Ooh, and maybe decorated with toffee crumbs. (Too much?) (NEVER)

      Inhaled, naturally.

It's hella changed since my undergrad days! In the early naughty-oughties, I desired the kid wearing puka shells and flip flops that pulled out his guitar at parties. (I guess I still love the guy who breaks out his guitar at parties. It just depends on what he's playing.)

      Anyway.

Around my twentieth birthday, a kindred spirit once told me, "Jenny, you're not going to be happy unless you're with someone who consistently surprises you." It's a statement that has stuck with me. They say we are attracted to people posessing qualities we lack. Keeping some things mysterious and alluring is something I'd like to work on (she writes, in a public forum!). I do think that quality can sustain relationships and keep the two parties from getting bored or restless.

HUMOR. This is huge. If you can't make me laugh, forget about getting me into bed.

COMMON INTEREST COMPATIBILITY. I'm not looking to match him exactly, but like Hornby said in High Fidelity: "It's not good pretending that any relationship has a future if your record collections disagree violently, or if your favourite films wouldn't even speak to each other if they met at a party."

Also - honest, self-aware, intellectual, etc. etc. The usual stuff.

Although I didn't have any imaginary friends, I am an only child, and so I "played house" quite a bit with people who weren't there. When I was little, my imaginary boyfriend of choice was John Lennon. (It still is.)

"I'm the Greatest Star" by Barbra Streisand, from "Funny Girl." This is my go-to song when I need a pep talk. Or, you know, whenever it's on. (I HAVE IT ON VINYL, if that tells you anything.)

They say that if you need to feel happy, you should force yourself to smile. Just the muscle memory of smiling makes your body release hormones that create happiness. That's what this song is, to me. I could be absolutely paralyzed in the way of self-confidence, but if I force myself to sing this song, I can pump myself up a bit. This song is larger than life and completely self-indulgent and I love that about it.

FAVORITE LINE: "SOMEDAY THEY'LL CLAM-UH FOR MY DRAM-UH."

I just found a picture of myself when I was thirteen in overalls. This would have been the late nineties? I had like three different pairs of overalls. Sick.

I was three, I believe. While my mom worked, she put me in the care of her cousin, Carol, who ran a daycare out of her home. Carol also had six kids of her own, who would play with us after they came home from school.

One afternoon, her boys were playing football, and I was on the shoulder of her son Patrick. He was running, and somehow, fell. With me on his shoulders, it seemed like a mighty fall - but I was fine. A lot of crying, to be sure.

Oddly enough, I ran into him at a wedding nearly fifteen years later, and he remembered the same event!

Chocolate. I'm sorry, but "vanilla" is used as an adjective meaning "bland and boring" for a reason.

Private jet. I'm absolutely terrified of flying, so I'd need some extra xanax and booze to knock me out. But I like the idea of being able to jet off somewhere spontaneously.
