No characters have been removed from the story. You'll be seeing either entirely new character or characters that have been redesigned.

This current incarnation is pulling a rather large introductory arc as opposed to the quick introduction I did last time. So all these new characters are necessary for the plot I have worked out.

    2. Clay

Scenes, in the current format, take an hour or two at most to do. (It's mostly backgrounds being drawn and animation effects)

I realize that so far everything has been building in terms of atmosphere. But we're FINALLY at the bar, where something is actually GOING TO HAPPEN.

I'm really sorry how slow the opening but there's a lot that I need to establish about the world. I DID build an entire world for this story, so I want to show it to you guys.

And thank you, something will happen next update, which I'll be working on this weekend . (maybe, this week's stack of homework seems a little thick)

    3. Clay

Yeah that's the aim of this latest design. Everything is compartmentalized, so it reads a lot easier. There's actually even more on the main page now, but it's not cluttered. I'm also re-engineering the way you navigate pages.

Currently there are two sets of page navigations buttons. (the ones I put in the pages themselves and the ones in the HTML) Just that by itself is really confusing. So I'll be retrofitting all previous pages to use native flash "next" buttons and having you guys navigate the pages like that.

I'll also be pulling another play from the Hussie handbook and have the page catalogue directly to the left of the page, so that users can instantly jump to whatever page they want.

I'm also modifying that half-assed "save your place" script so that it will automatically load your place once you've saved it.

Expect the new new layout in a week or so. I might release it with the next update.

If you guys want to witness it's progress, you can actually check it out at http://testbedv2.thecomicseries.com

I'll also take feedback as well, just remember it's VERY much a work in progress.

Den very much has her own quirks, but she's definitely not on the same level of weird as Robin. Den is more sarcastic and snarky, she took to books at an early age as a way of escaping Robin's nonsense. Her implants also give her headaches, which is why she prefers to be alone.

Den doesn't hate Robin, she just finds him annoying. (who can blame her?)

Spiddrelli is what happens when you weave all the creative ideas you've had in the past 5 years and subsequently cull bad ideas and reinforce good ones. I always wanted to create a universe in which all stories I thought of could coexist with each other.

I don't know, I think a lot of the characters in Spiddrelli are made unrelatable to me on purpose. It's more interesting to create a character that wouldn't react to situations like I would.

I agree, and I'm starting to make updates less and less animated, but I still want slight animation to it. The answer is going to be a combination of your suggestion and my current methods. Updates will be single frame, they will be slightly animated, and the story will pick up. I think opening is justified being animated as it is, but now that we're getting into the meat of the story I agree that it needs to speed up so that the reader actually has something to entertain them.

That being said I'll have a new update out tomorrow. Stay tuned.

So far this particular style change is good for two reasons.

      1. It looks good, it harks back to the nostalgic days where games were made on the SCUMM engine.

      2. It's fast. The old style was good, but took a long time because I tried to push realism into the backgrounds, which, surprisingly took time. These backgrounds can be quick, messy, and still look good. That's not to say I don't invest effort into them, I just

I'm basically just going to hang loose on the style front of things and not really think about how I'm going to convey the story.

I tend to get really caught up in the logistics of things, which bogs down my mind with lots of unnecessary prattle.

At this point, telling a good story is all I want to do.

    10. Clay

I actually have started working on it again. I might have a batch update in a week or two.

Scroll left, It's etched into the desk. Alternatively you can find the old archive at http://spiddrelliarchive.cfw.me/

    12. Clay

Yeah, I've thought about that. I'm going to look into better software for compression. Because the Prologue youtube upload is really terrible quality.

But yes, I will do it.

    13. Clay

Believe it or not. I actually have a LOT of the story planned past El Vencedor. Once Ina started being my cowriter we came up with a lot of plotlines. The problem was my rushed storytelling. As for buffer. I'll aim to have a one-batch buffer. Me and Ina brainstorm ideas all the time. So I don'think I'll need downtime aside from maybe needing extra time to work on the actual comic.

This time around I'm slowing down my story so the audience can absorb more. Spiddrelli has been an idea in my head since 2008. So there is A LOT about the world for the audience to experience.

    14. Clay
    15. Clay

No no, I understand. I know a lot of the readers are going to be annoyed because of the lack of closure to the El Vencedor arc.

But I honestly can't really say anything at the moment. I'm still designing and storyboarding. I plan on working on the first update tomorrow. So I will say two weeks before anything happens? The new site design is 90% done, and I have all of the current spiddrelli backed up on a sister site. When I make the change, the new site will link to the sister-site library for anyone that still wants to read the old version.

I can probably say once every two weeks. With each update being a batch of 4-6 updates. Less if I feel a particular scene needs more detail. But I will NEVER release a single, lonely update again.

    16. Clay

Yeah, I know. But that wasn't the fault of flash. That was mostly due to me moving 7 hours from where I used to live. I had a LOT going on. I have much more free time now.

But I also partly was unmotivated to continue with Spiddrelli in it's current state because I was not proud of it. So much of it was haphazard and unscripted, the audience didn't get much information, I plowed through my plot points. Not to mention the comic shifting formats every month. I just didn't like where it went. And I felt like I was just trying to tape together a structure that i should just let collapse.

Like I said, this time around updates are going to be in batches. Because I know how disappointing it was to have updates with no substance.

    17. Clay

It's going to be hybrid-to-full animation like before. The frames are all going to be in 720x480 format.

I agree that animation makes production slower, but there's a lot of positives to using animation. For one, there are VERY few animated webcomics, which makes Spiddrelli stand out in a sea of simple still-frame comics.

MOST frames will be fully animated. and updates will be in batches of 4 to 6 pages.

The general plotlines are going to be intact, but the journey through the story is going to be much more in-depth and interesting. So while the actual 'story' is going to be slower, you're going to learn a LOT more about the universe Spiddrelli takes place in.

All I want is to make Spiddrelli the highest quality possible. I want it to shine, and that involves investing time. I know you guys want me to be Andrew Hussie, but I don't do this for a living. I'll try my best to appease the crowd.

    18. Clay

Mostly briefs, i have a few pair of boxers, but they aren't as comfortable.

    19. Clay

I use Adobe Flash CS5. I've been using flash for over 10 years, back when it was still Macramedia Flash 5!

    20. Clay

Heh, I can see why you'd think that.

No friend, Spiddrelli is far from over. But, I am currently in the process of moving and getting a job! So I have not had time over this past month to work on anything. (That's actually a lie, I have been working on an update. But it's far from finished.)

I might as well take this opportunity to announce Spiddrelli's format change.

One of the biggest pieces of advice the Creative Director of Adventure Time gave me was to focus on quality, and not quantity of updates. So I've been taking his words to heart.

For now, Spiddrelli will be a MONTHLY update. These updates will be big, they will be fully animated, and hell they'll pretty much always be set to music.

These updates will have small snippet lead-up updates here and there to fill gaps.

But please, Spiddrelli is nowhere near dead. Me and Ina have been brainstorming it's future nearly every night.

I say give us one more month, and Spiddrelli will be back up to full speed with a big shiny new update for you to enjoy.
