Well...I am not going to tell you what guitar to get or not...i think the best advice is to go to a bunch of guitar stores and play as many different types as possible. There are going to be a few guidelines to folow
1. What kind of sound do you want? (you don't have to know beforehand, this is a journey of discovery)
2. What kind of look are you going for?
3. What is your pricerange?
Now go out and play everything you can get your hands on!
