it's not truth. it's for both. they say it this way, cause "usually" men opinions on the education of their kids are heavy. So if you marry, a christian, and you wanna teach your kid how to pray, and he says no, then... it will be harder to have your way. That's the only reason.

In Islam, You can marry someone who is monotheist, who believes in one God.
But if you want to "Stand up", never do that. Specially if it's your parents.
If you wanna be logical in your choice, make a pros-cons list:
pros: you will be with the person you want
cons: parents no happy - you will have religious holidays-beliefs issues - how your kids will be educated?
If you wanna risk everything, the best thing to do is be independant. Means: financially, socially, etc.... This way, if somethig goes wrong, at least you can have a safe background.
