Excellent question. Our blogging program is competitive. Each year, incoming students that express interest in it will try their hand at blogging (and the other components of the job) for the first semester so we can gauge their abilities and commitment level. If that goes well, they will be considered for a paid position in the following semesters. We also have a range of volunteer blogging positions (study abroad, special interest, etc.) and participating in other Saint Mike's organizations (like the Founders Society) can increase your chances of being selected. Hope that's helpful!

Hi there- this is straight from the IT department:

"We do not offer Macs through this program, but we do offer accidental protection coverage on macs via CampusHP (at an additional cost)--apple does not offer accidental damage protection, so of they do get a Mac I would highly suggest getting the extra coverage from us. The AppleCare protection only covers factory defects and software issues.

In any case, I would suggest getting an HP from our program--any of the 3 models offered have better specs than a Mac, and you get Office 2010, 4 years of Norton anti virus, and 4 years of full hardware and software support on site, all for almost the same price as buying a bare-bones MacBook. "

More information will also be available in your new student guide, which should be coming in the mail very soon and also available on our website as of next Monday.

The middle 50 percent of accepted students' scores for our Class of 2015 (this year's first years) was 1600-1890. However, if you fall outside of that range do not fret. Our Admissions department makes it a priority to consider the entire student's application and interests, not just test scores.

Whatever you'd like! It's a nice event but most accepted students will be dressed casually. We want you to feel comfortable.

    7. Saint Michael's College

Absolutely. There are bikes racks and places to lock up all around campus. If your bike is particularly special to you, some students also set up racks and find space to keep them in their rooms, too.

That's actually almost precisely how we do it- by making sure your interests are similar or at least complementary. The Residence Life staff sends out questionnaires to incoming first-year students to get a sense of their interests, backgrounds, preferences, habits, etc. Using the responses from those, they do their best to pair students whom they believe will get along well. Most of the time, it works famously. But in the occasional event that the pairing is not a good one, the staff is also adept at addressing the situation quickly and rearranging as necessary. Their chief goal is to make sure you are comfortable, safe and happy with your living arrangement at the college.

We have a very active and vibrant Campus Ministry on campus and there are plenty of ways to get involved from the moment you step onto to campus your first year. Everything from being trained as a liturgical minister to participating in LEAP or Emmaus retreats to getting involved with VITA (our peer ministry group that offers weekly small group faith sharing on Scripture called “Connections” and larger group faith sharing called “LINK”). Our volunteer service office, MOVE (Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts), is part of Campus Ministry is a great way to put your faith in action through service to both local, domestic and international communities. That being said, although there are many opportunities every week to explore and deepen your faith, it is up to each student to choose whether or not they want to participate. We estimate about 50-55% of our student population describe themselves as Catholic, yet both Catholic and students of other denominations or faith traditions participate in our programming and activities. It is “popular” among the many students who choose to be involved and who form strong relationships and friendships as part of those groups, ranging from 4-6 students in small faith sharing groups to over 60 students who go on a LEAP retreat weekend.

Of course! We encourage all our students to pursue a variety of interests and see which one suits them best. Many students do not declare a major or change majors throughout their first few years. Also, as part of the liberal arts curriculum, you will be required to take a few classes across all disciplines and very often these classes were inspire interests you may not have even knew you had. That's the luxury of such a broad education. Hope that helps!

A full list of all our clubs is available here: http://www.smcvt.edu/clubs/ And the track club is among them! We'll try to "track" down the student coordinator and let you know their contact info.

It depends on what you want to store! There are a few different self storage options very near the school. Just Google "self storage" and pair it with Burlington or Winooski to find them. All are affordable and safe. Depending on your expected living situation next year, you may also be able to make arrangements with student life and facilities.

    14. Saint Michael's College

Well! While we've been a PC-based campus in the past, we are moving evermore toward equal support of Mac and PCs and students can expect a comparable level of service for both from our Helpdesk. We also have a new, fully functional Mac lab that is currently used for graphic design classes and is available with permission to students.

      3) Yes, absolutely. We look at every school profile to understand the rigor of the school as well as the academic opportunities provided for each student.

    16. Saint Michael's College

Yes, we do take into account legacy and family connections when looking at a student’s application, however, your academic record and standardized test scores (if you choose to submit) will be given more weight in the application process.

    17. Saint Michael's College

We don't have a program specifically designated to graphic design. Rather, graphic design is covered as part of the Media Studies, Journalism and Digital Arts Department's studies. You are free to take whichever classes you'd like at Saint Mike's (in addition to the core courses) and can major/minor in MSJDA to maximize your work with graphic design.

Hi There- I assume you're inquiring about visiting the college as a prospective student. The school will generally be closed (and most students away) for Easter break this weekend. You could still absolutely come and look at the campus and many facilities. But you would be better served coming a different weekend if you'd like to chat with students and professors and have a more wide-ranging tour. You can also contact the Admissions office for further details or to see about visiting another time. admission@smcvt.edu

    19. Saint Michael's College

We take each application individually and look at everyone as a whole person. So it's difficult to say whether or not a certain GPA would be accepted. But, generally speaking, our average accepted student is around a B/B+

    20. Saint Michael's College

You can absolutely defer your enrollment (and a gap year is a great choice for many students). Just be sure to give the Admissions department a call to let them know your decision and make sure everything is square with them.
