      Hey Ry. So i realized that my camera (Canon HV40) shoots HD video, and imports HD video to FCP, but when I playback the quality drops (possilby due to frame blending?) I can stop on individual frames in FCP and the HD is back. but not when playing the vid

      It's just not rendered. FCP drops the quality so it can play it back in full motion.

      To get different angles in your shorts, you film everything more than once right? this is the number one thing that always stumps me when filming. For example, if someones running away, should i film it a different angles a couple of times?

      This maybe a dumb question, but how does the work flow go between FCP and AE? Do you edit completely first in FCP then send it to AE, or do you edit and send to AE as you go? Or do you add all VFX/ColorC then send to FC to edit?

      I render out the individual clips that need AE work. I typically use apple pro res.

      I will be shooting Behind the Scenes of students' capstones. For a local TV station. Any advice on what to capture? What questions to ask the crews? and any other general tips?

      Just make a solid plan before you get started and you will do fine. Research what you are going to be shooting so that you have all the info you need to ask the proper questions.

      What is lens whacking?

      It is when the lens is not mounted to the camera, you are just holding it up to the camera. Then you move it a way a bit to allow light to hit the censor directly and cause crazy lens flares.

      Nice job man. I would throw a letter box on it, add a bit more color correction, and use an external mic. If you added those elements I think it would improve a lot. But good job over all. The muzzle flashes looked good as well.

      hey ryan, ever since the slow motion episode, i have been playing with slow motion a lot with my 60fps camera. i have a question: can you conform the frame rate to much lower than 24fps? would that make it more slower?

      I haven't tried it. I Imagine that it wouldn't play smoothly. Since you want to stay around 24fps play back or more for smooth continuous footage.

      I just bought the azden SGM-X microphone, and when i was reviewing the footage i could only here the audio through one speaker, could you tell me how to fix this?

      It is mono. You need to pan it to center.

      My colleague and I shoot live events such as weddings, concerts, etc. We currently use Panasonic DVC30's and are looking to upgrade to HD cams that record to a digital media rather than MiniDV tape. Our budget is about $3000 a camera. Any suggestions?

      If you are getting a few cams. I would maybe get a couple proper cams and one or two 5D's.

      Would a 5Dm2 or 7D make a good camera for live events (weddings, music concerts, etc.) where zoom is used a lot, the cameras are constantly on the move & so is the subject? I fear lack of continuous autofocus will become a problem when moving and zooming.

      I'm not sure that I would go with a dslr in that instance. It makes it a bit harder.

      Hey man… I'm confused on codecs. What conversion software for the Mac can I use to convert AVCHD to AIC or PRORES that also converts AIC or PRORES to H.264?

      mpeg stream clip should be able to handle that. Also, you should be able to import AVCHD straight into FCP.

      Do you find that ProRes makes your converted files WAY bigger? Or am I doing something wrong in MPEG Streamclip?

      Depends on which one you use. If you use HQ it will.
