I'm painfully socially awkward--or at least socially uncertain--and pretty shy, which apparently reads frequently as aloof and somewhat hostile.

In general, you're going to have better luck asking colorists what they charge, as most editors are contractually and etiquettally prohibited from publicizing rates.

What I can tell you is that colorist rates vary substantially depending on the skill level, project, publisher, timeline, other creative expenses, and a slew of other factors.

Well, I'm still working here, so I've obviously yet to reach my limit.

I've never worked at Dark Horse twitter-Rmai, but working at plain ol' Dark Horse is, like most jobs, a mix of satisfying and frustrating, engaging and dull.

A lot of people seem to assume that working in comics is like an extended vacation, where everything is magical and exciting and fun all the time. And while it's awesome to work in a medium and industry I love, with like-minded colleagues, it's also still very much a regular full-time job, with all of the attendant ups and downs, plus all the comic books you can eat.

The first fictional character I remember really latching on to was Aerin, the main character of _The Hero and the Crown_, by Robin McKinley. Aerin was brave, smart, difficult, and definitely not pretty; the kind of female action hero I'd never really encountered before. She fucked up and got hurt and learned and generally saved the world, all while being overwhelmingly, frustratingly human. Plus, I liked the way her name was spelled.

Including ones I can speak only very poorly, four. I'm fluent in English. I can sometimes struggle along in Spanish and French--better with written than spoken--and I know a smattering of elementary school German.

I'm really fond of _He, She, and It_, by Marge Piercey, although I'm not sure it counts as strictly dystopian, since it takes place mostly in a nested utopia of sorts.

Carter Beats the Devil, Sparks, The Little Prince, Midnight Hour Encores, Starman, George Orwell, Jorge Luis Borges, Roald Dahl, Barbara Kingsolver, Lloyd Alexander, and more I'm sure I'm forgetting...

Assuming commercial potential and rights are entirely off the table, I'd love to write comics adaptations of Lloyd Alexander's Vesper Holly books.

I'm leery of direct adaptation except when I feel like it actively adds something to the story, and in this case, I think it really would. The Holly books are fast-paced, dynamic, and visually rich in ways that make me think they'd be fantastic fun as visual narratives, and their verbal identity is focused in the dialogue, so it wouldn't be lost in the transition to a comic.

Plus, I think they'd be a blast to write--and then to read!

With RPGs, I've found that the system makes less difference than the GM and group. That said, I prefer systems that are set up for fairly straightforward play--nothing where every round of combat takes an hour because you have to take algebra breaks. I started with AD&D and original WoD, and I like both of those in their current incarnations. I love Adventure; it's not the most balanced system, but the dramatic editing rules make it worth it. The old Ninja Burger--the table-top RPG, not the newer card game--is ridiculous fun. I really want to play with more diceless systems, like Polaris, but haven't yet had a chance.

Also has to be table-top. I'm not a LARPer, because I find the incremental suspension of disbelief more difficult than the total.

My favorite board games tend to be either the long, ridiculously complex, strategic kind--Arkham Horror, HeroQuest (we had game of HeroQuest that ran three years in college), but I also love fast, silly stuff, especially when it's word-based. I used to be fantastic at Balderdash but have fallen out of practice.
