How do you feel about the rising cesarean section rates in the United States?

This seems to be a short answer kind of format, and this question is a great one that could inspire a whole essay. In short, then, I find it problematic that women may feel pressured to have c-sections based on providers' liability concerns rather than specific individual health/delivery concerns. I think there are a lot of things to address here, from VBAC to paternalism to evidence-based medicine to women's role in the process, but I hope it suffices to say that I find the c-section rates of many locations in the U.S. to be shockingly and inexplicably high.
