They is no way of knowing any official numbers until we receive the most recent update of each chapters roster at the beginning of the school year. We need to figure out where each chapter stands in regards to graduated seniors and the number of member still in the chapter before deciding if they will be taking any new girls during fall recruitment.
-
Yes there are, you can go to the Paul Robeson Student center for more information on Greek Life on the Newark Campus. All of the detail are on the website http://studentorgs.newark.rutgers.edu/node/330
-
NPC chapters took between 20 and 40 new members this semester.
-
Any chapter can recruit in the fall if their membership roster falls below 100 (either because of graduating seniors or because they had spots that hadn't yet been filled.)
-
When they finished recruiting I believe they had 39

Chapters don't have to hold a Meet the Sisters night...the sorority may have had a lot of end of the year events and couldn't fit it in. We won't really know who is recruiting in the fall until we return to campus and see how many women have graduated/decided to go on Study Abroad, etc. If the chapter has any spots open they will be recruiting.
-
Im not going to say it's common, because I don't know. But wanting to study abroad definitely wont lower your chances of getting a bid, or wont be looked down upon once in the chapter. In my experience, sisters study abroad together, which can be a lot of fun! Talk to your sisters and see who's interested and maybe a couple girls can go.
-
Again, that really depends on the chapter. That's not a question I can answer
-
If you are in a professional organization you can attend NPC events, because you can be in both

That for some reason we had a huge number of women come out for recruitment, and that we won't have that many next year.
-
Kind of. They were worried that this years high number of women who came out for recruitment was a fluke. They want to reassess if we are in the same position this time next year. Most of the chapters weren't pro-expansion, which is how we assumed it would be. I really, really, (really) wouldn't hold your breath if you're waiting for a new chapter to come to campus, I've been pushing the conversation for the past two years and it just happend and is being pushed back even further.
-
There definitely is a point! I would recommend going out with an open mind and meeting as many chapters and sisters as possible.
-
No, there's nothing that can be changed. This is why we stress that the best opportunity is in the spring, and we repeatedly say that Fall recruitment is not a guarantee, it only happens when the chapters have less than 100 sisters - this is partly why it is considered informal because not everyone participates. My best advice is to come back out in the spring if you don't get a bid from a chapter you're interested in.
-
The fall is informal recruitment- that means that the chapters have their own events, and give out bids according to their own timeline. For updated event dates, check out our Facebook page. Some chapters are having events before the semester ends, at this point I think the only event left is ZTA tomorrow night at 10pm.
Again, we will post on our Facebook who is able to extend bids, but we won't know until rosters are update the first week of the fall semester. -
Most chapters have payment plans, but being able to pay dues is part of being a sister. When you go to meet the sisters events, ask what their dues are and what their payment plans are like. Cultural organizations are also sororities, and for a number of reasons they are generally less expensive. I would consider checking out those as well.
-
It really varies by chapter. Some chapters only require that you live there if you are interested in the executive council, others require members to live there if they can't fill all the rooms. It's a question you have to ask the individual chapters to get all of the information.
-
Evidently (I wasnt there- I was at a bridal shower), the chapters don't want to continue to have large new member classes, it's hard to deal with, but they're also not ready to do anything about it. So for now at least, everything is staying the same.
