In December of 1991 I had staph/strep/mono/hong kong flu that did not respond to ordinary antibiotics all at the same time, masking each other while visiting Pasadena, CA. I lost 50 pounds in a month, they had no clue what I had and thought it might have been HIV. I slept about 22 hours a day (while on vacation), but still made it to the Rose Bowl (stayed until the game was no longer in doubt). When I arrived home, Ohio doctors did a much better diagnosing me, gave me a new class of antibiotic and things got better, but I still needed the winter to recover.
