This year, instead of flowers or perfume or dinner out, I asked my husband to do something for me from the list. Flowers and dinner are great, but they don't last forever. A completed project, something that makes our home more comfortable or makes it more beautiful, lasts forever.

So, for me, the best thing a mom can get on mother's day is a gift that lasts for more than a day, something to remind her day in and day out that she is loved and valued. And, if you ask my husband, you only remove 50+ year old wallpaper from a cramped laundry room on your only day off for someone you really love.
