No. I've met a few literary heroes, and they've all been disappointing because of their obvious humanity. It's encouraging at the same time, that successful people are still people, that brilliant minds have the same mound of grey matter that we all have, and that they are as vulnerable as us, if not more so...because they have so much more to lose. We give our heroes a grand stage, but it's not always best to peek behind the curtain.

I'd say all the worst pain is emotional, and all emotional pain comes from disappointment. A wound can heal and painkillers can remove the physical affect, but nothing aside from time and change can heal an emotional hurt, and other perceived solutions, from alcohol and drugs, only compound the pain. So, what I think you're asking really is, "what is your greatest disappointment?" Disappointment only comes from expectation, so what was my greatest failed expectation? ...Honestly, I don't know. I've come to terms with all of the disappointments in my life, so aside from the sensation of experiencing them at the time, I've no way to judge. All of my disappointments seem distant, in the past, hidden in haze.
