Hello there, I am so sorry you have to go through this really tough period in your life, wish I could give you a hug! You're probably someone born in 1990, that's quite young, from experience, its nothing but a horrible experience when my family found out, I'd advise you to keep mum about your condition!

Its great that 1st line meds in Malaysia are free, but do bear in mind that you have to adhere to them strictly, because my Malaysian poz friends have told me that for 2nd line meds you guys need to pay. Its better to start treatment for your HIV earlier. You can find out more in this article here: http://healthland.time.com/2012/07/23/new-advice-calls-for-putting-all-hiv-patients-on-drug-treatment/

Always remember that treatment for HIV nowadays is for prevention. The lower your Viral Load, the better the chance of you not acidentally infecting your partner should he/she be HIV negative. (http://healthland.time.com/2011/12/01/treatment-as-prevention-how-the-new-way-to-control-hiv-came-to-be/) I wish you well, Stay safe!

Swollen lymph nodes are a sign of many other things other than HIV, for one, you could just be down with the flu, or tonsilitis. Don't worry too much. If it persists, please see a doctor. Stay safe!

Hi there, I am not too sure what is your intention of visiting the DSC Clinic, but I am going to assume that you are going to go for a blood test to screen for HIV.

There are three ways to approach this issue, you can either visit the DCS Clinic Anonymous Testing Centre on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, and no names will be recorded down. Expect a wait. You can get more information in this link here,
      (http://www.afa.org.sg/anonymous.php)

The second option is to visit a private clinic to get a HIV test done at a private clinic. This will be slightly pricier but your confidentiality is assured. I recommend a visit to Shim Clinic at Bedok South. You can read up more here (http://www.hivtestsingapore.com/).

The final option, if you are fine with your records being in the medical system, is to head back to the DSC Clinic during normal working hours and proceed with registration. The DSC Clinic is affiliated to the Ministry of Health and its considered a specialised polyclinic so you will be given subsidies and such. Furthermore, as a current NSman carrying an SAF 11B (or any other SPF NSF or SCDF NSF equivalent), medical treatment will be free of charge as a form of privelege. THIS is in the event you are seeking treatment for a Sexually Transmitted Infection like Gonorrhea etc. If you are going for an HIV test, normal clinic charges do apply.

With regard to your question on whether visiting the DSC Clinic would have any adverse effect on your future work and university applications, do not worry. Medical records are strictly confidential and will not be released to schools and private companies.

If you'd like to know more about the implications of members of the civil service (NSFs are considered civil servants) testing positive for HIV, if it happens, please read more on this short answer I've provided to someone who has asked me the question a few months back. http://tmblr.co/ZQNSdvSt0lqg.

I hope this answers your question. Stay safe!

I am a civil servant right now. I used to be on Medifund assiatance from the government to help with my medication costs when I was still in school. My father gives me a token amount of pocket money a month to help as well. I am estranged from my mother, I don't get a single cent from her, and I don't wish to anyway.

I am very blessed to have lived all my life in places that do not have natural disasters. I can't imagine how I'd function/react if I ever had to suffer such calamities, really.

Hello, thank you for finding inspiration in the Fridae article. Personally, I am also very impressed by the fact that you have taken it upon your self to end you secret other life of substance abuse (I am assuming its a double life, and doesn't affect your day-to-day routine).

I am not too sure if you are a Singaporean or are living in Singapore, but if you are, here's the hotline where you can give a call to seek counselling and assistance. (Singapore Anti Narcotics Association: http://www.sana.org.sg/)
You are sorta still considered a youth, so you might also want to approact counsellors at Youth.SG (link here: http://app.youth.sg/Home/Resources.aspx?id=4)

I wish you well, and bestest luck in your resolve to end the addiction, ok? :)

Thank you for pointing out this fact to the readers, according the Swiss researchers, immediate antiretroviral treatment helps very much reduce the size of latent HIV reservoirs and the HIV viral load. (link to article here: http://www.aidsbeacon.com/news/2011/11/29/early-antiretroviral-treatment-reduces-latent-hiv-aids-and-viral-load-setpoints-but-only-temporarily/)

But as far as I know, things work differently in Singapore, and the standard practice is when CD4 level of a HIV+ person dips below 300, his/her doctor will advice to begin antiretroviral treatment.

"Kevin" is a special friend of mine, and I will be by his side in monitoring his CD4 levels and help him adjust to the ARVs when the time comes for him to start. For now, I advised him to take daily supplements of Selenium to keep everything in check.

Hello, thank you so much for taking the time reading through my Public Service Announcements, product placements, coupon sharing tweets, and my lifestory tweetspams.

I didn't actually choose "Zack" as a pseudonym but the people who started the Silence.SG STD awareness website did. It was my first time ever being interviewed to tell my story on how I live with HIV and HPV and the name 'Zack' has stuck, and become my nom de guerre ever since.

Obviously my name IRL is not Zack. :P

You can read my HIV story here. http://silencesg.blogspot.sg/2011/08/story01zack_9956.html
