any advice on where to get started for a business professional wardrobe on a budget?

Absolutely! I shop a lot for business casual and professional wear.

My favorite suits are those made by Tahari. Not only is the material extremely comfortable, but the weave of the fabric is well done and looks crisp even though it feels soft. They also have a good balance of structure while still looking feminine and flattering curves.

That said, Tahari is expensive. And so off I go to Nordstrom Rack. I found two fantastic Tahari suits there for $45 each. A great bargain.

Now, if you need a bunch of suits because you have to wear one everyday and need one you can find quickly, I say to look at Zara and The Limited. Both of these stores always have suits in stock for reasonable prices (about $100-150 per suit). In Zara, look carefully at the lining of the suit and the materials, as they have three different lines with three levels of quality. Zara Woman definitely has the best use of material. The Limited is a great resource for skirt suits. Too often I see women wearing a jacket that clearly came from a different suit than did the skirt, and it can so easily be avoided. Since The Limited makes their suits with various options, it is easy to have a blazer with a skirt and pants, all made of the same material and dyed the exact same color!

Shirts: for the shirts that I wear under my suits, I like to look at comfortable knits. I always say that if you are not willing to wear the suit without the shirt, it is absolutely not worth it. The Limited and Zara are good sources for cheaper yet quality knits ($20-50 a top), and again, Nordstrom Rack is a good resource for good finds.

Nordstrom Rack is my favorite resource because you can find some EXTREMELY good deals. I even saw a Dior suit there for $200! BUT you have to be willing to invest an entire day here, because of the searching and the fitting room time.

The best investment that you can make in your wardrobe search is to find a good opinion. Ask! I bring along someone brutally honest and even ask other girls in the dressing room what they think. A random stranger is a good resource because they have no biases against or in favor of you.

Nordstrom itself is a good resource because you can use a personal stylist for free; I do this during their anniversary sales since everything is cheaper and I can use someone to help me sift through the floors of available merchandise.

Please feel free to ask any questions! If I was not specific enough to your budget or location, please let me know and I will be happy to help! NadiaThinks@gmail.com or FormSpring.me again!
