adore it! quite possibly the most versatile fashion choice year-round. For spring, I like to layer it with a chambray shirt on top and a great pair of wedges, (giving me a bit of height that no one can see)! xx
-
Absolutely! We have a few spots left for summer interns. The roles will be extremely hands on, assisting with shoots, weddings and stories for the blog. Please feel free to email our stylist coordinator at style (at) mercinewyork (dot) com. Thanks for your interest!

People ask us about tipping beauty vendors all the time. We always advise that tipping is completely discretionary and merited on a job well done. I am sure it is not expected, but certainly appreciated. Hope that helps.

Hi there. I'm not sure of his rates, but Matt Turk at Tower Films does remarkable work. He's based in California, but is beginning a NYC-based cinematography business: http://www.towerfilms.net/ Hope that helps.

Hi there. Liene Stevens of Think Splendid Communications recently launched http://www.findaweddingjob.com/a/jobs/find-jobs. It's a great resource for anyone looking for a job within the industry. Hope it helps.

My pleasure. Sissi is lovely. I hope it works out.

We are always happy to help, Anita. Please feel free to email me directly at jackie@mercinewyork.com.

Are you getting married in the NYC area? We've worked as stylists alongside many make-up artists who specialize in Asian hair and make-up. After several hair and make-up trials, one of our clients landed on Sissi Chan. Sissi does wonderful work and is fairly priced. www.sissichan.com. Let her know we sent you! Hope it helps! xx

Hmm. That is the oddest Formspring "question" yet. But thank you for your sweet words, whoever you are. :)

Hi Julie! My previous / corporate career was in the fashion industry. I began my career as a design coordinator for a large label, where I worked on maintaining the design integrity of a range of licensed priduct, from tabletop, to sleepwear, bedding and leather goods. It taught me to understand cohesive design elements and the DNA of a brand or design aesthetic - something I've since carried over to Merci's various styling projects.
As my career progressed, I also worked in sales and marketing for some strong contemporary labels. I had the pleasure of styling look books and catalogs, as well as product pages for Web Sites. Fashion styling remains my passion, and by bringing that skill set to the wedding industry, Merci New York was quickly able to acquire some strong magazine editorial and advertorial projects, even in its first year.
I think that my background in design, lifestyle and fashion styling - plus a BA in Journalism - was a perfect backdrop for the Merci New York brand, as both a styling house and a online resource for the fashion-focused city bride.
I am a firm believer that your professional experience can transition between industries, especially when paired with passion, enthusiasm and commitment to your cause. :)
Thanks for such a great question!! -
What a strange question... No, I never have been fired. I have had to fire employees in my corporate life though. Certainly not fun.
-
I wanted to create and foster a community that provided "chic inspiration for the busy city bride" (TM).

Thanks for your interest in sharing your fashion or style-focused wedding with our readership of chic, city brides!
Please feel free to email us at submissions@mercinewyork.com or info@mercinewyork.com with the following information:
- An assortment of photos, including detail shots, that best represent your big day. Images must be un-collaged, unbranded, and without a watermark. About 20 of your best photos would be best. A zip file is great.
- The details of your wedding, (the who what when where and why, along with anything extraordinary you would like to share). This can be a brief recap. If we are interested in publishing your wedding, we will send an official questionnaire.
- Be sure to share the vendors that made your day special, and their Web sites, if applicable.
- Please make sure your photographer knows you are submitting the images and that they have not been published elsewhere. (Once weddings are published on Merci New York, they will not be removed from our archives).
Thanks so much!! We look forward to hearing from you!! -
Absolutely! A background in the visual arts, especially interior design, is so beneficial (and versatile, should you ever decide to change paths in the future). Paired with some event design internships, you will be wonderfully prepared. (we are always looking for more hands on deck for the spring and summer semesters BTW).
Good luck and keep in touch if we can help with anything! -
Hey Amanda! Congrats on your engagement!
Have you checked out Wedding Window? There are so many options out there, but I am impressed by how much they've grown / expanded their offerings recently. I haven't tried or tested Weddings GoGo, but they have a strong presence as well, and I know brides who have been pleased.
OR, you can set up a Blogger-based wedding page. Blogger is so intuitive, (plus free), and now allows for pages and navigation, so that's always an option. You can work with a blog designer who can use a template or create something specific to you and your wedding, for the same cost as a wedding website. Hope it helps! -
My very first job in the fashion industry was a design assistant for a reputable, large brand. We had a ton of licensees - everything from small leather goods, to sleepwear, to a comprehensive home line that included tabletop, bedding, bath.. and more.
My job was to provide the initial design direction for the licensed product, and maintain that the licensees' designs "sat with" our brand's aesthetic. Every six months, our showroom was transformed for a (major) Market theme, and every two months or so, our licensees had their own niche Market, so I would visit their showrooms as well.
I so enjoyed seeing their showroom, set and photo shoot process - and I reveled in the "tricks of the trade" that their stylists had up their sleeves (everything from adding batting to an otherwise limp duvet cover, to manipulating clothing with gadgets and gizmos). I loved the intricacies and detail that went into creating ONE beautiful image - and when my career in the industry progressed, I always held a special interest in the process...
SO long story short - If you're interested, and passionate... show it. People cannot feign passion, but when you have it, it shines, and opportunities arise. -
Hands down, Mad Men. The style, the fashion, the propping... and of course the plot... are all so wonderfully on-point.

Hi there!
"Vintage" wedding photography - i.e. torn edges, discoloration, etc., is certainly tough to find in New York City. If you are committed to finding a photographer with this specific style in mind, I would recommend you ask outside photographers to travel to ascertain you receive the style you are looking for...
However, if you are looking for an soft and beautiful alternative, I would highly suggest the work of Jen Huang Photography and Missy Photography....
Both Jen and Missy have a very romantic look that will be timeless and polished. You can see more of their work from the below links.

Hope that helps! -
Professionally, the hardest thing I probably ever did was quit my corporate job {in the middle of this recession, no less} to devote myself to Merci New York. It was certainly a risky move, but I was fueled and inspired by my vision, as well as a passion to develop something I believed in. Looking back, it was difficult, but looking ahead, I am increasingly inspired and excited by what's to come!
