As National Coming Out Day approaches, here's a time appropriate question: Is there an image from an art form (photo, artwork, TV show, video, website, etc.) that you closely associate with the day you came out to YOURSELF? If so, what is it?

Okay, I'll get this party started. For me, it was Judith Krantz's romance novel "Scruples" (yes, I'm dating myself). My southern Baptist mom came home for church one evening and caught her teenage son innocently watching the miniseries "Scruples" starring Lindsay Wagner and Barry Bostwick (at the time, I couldn't understand why I was so strongly drawn to the huge bulge in Barry's trousers throughout the series...and his cute tight whities in the "Rocky Horror Picture Show"). Mom knew I was a huge fan of Lindsay Wagner ("Bionic Woman" for you young'uns), Lynda Carter ("Wonder Woman") and Pam Grier ("Coffy" and "Foxy Brown") -- which should have been a huge clue to both me and my mom. Knowing that I was an avid reader, my mom decided to surprise me by giving me a copy of the novel. Well unbeknownst to mommie dearest and to my pleasant surprise, there is a very graphic scene in the novel where the main character's boyfriend is caught having passionate butt sex with his secret male lover. For reasons I couldn't immediately comprehend, that scene ignited a fire deep within my soul that could not be extinguished with a deluge of wet dreams (and there were plenty). Of course during that time in my teenage life, I had been exposed to pornographic material depicting gay or bisexual encounters. However, "Scruples" touched me because the character was more than a sex object. Judith Krantz introduced a gay character that was a NYC business executive. He had a life, a career...he was real (as a fictional character can be). It planted in my mind the notion of gays having real lives with real careers, such as being producers, writers, accountants, engineers,...whatever they choose to be. So thank you mommie dearest and thank you Judith Krantz!

Would attend a sex party marketing PRIMARILY to guys on the DL (down low) and the guys who lust for them?

Not even when I was single would this have appealed to me. An event like this is an implicit devaluing of what it takes, either personally or socially, to live one's life honestly and in the open, that I would not want to contribute to its success.

On Twitter, you post something negative ABOUT someone, and you're brave enough to tag that someone in your post. Neither of you follow each other. That is, UNTIL that someone decides to become a follower of yours. What does that say about his/her psyche?

      He's fucking nuts

If you're single, do you know WHY you are single?

I think if you're not single you need to know why you're not single.
