it's totally scary, but it's also really exciting. after 18 years of having a default plan (school), you get to use your big sexy creative brain to decide what you're going to do. somebody told me that the best thing to do is think about the life you want to have and use that to decide what kind of work you're going to do.

don't worry, it gotcha. it took a long time for a lot of reasons. matching people up took a while because i had to match languages and ages and a few little requests here and there. what really took forever was sending out the emails. i tried to write a mail merge script but that just wasn't working, so julia and i sent them out in between 40 hour a week jobs, getting ready for college, other autostraddle stuff and just life in general.

have you met our new lesbianagettes? nita's going to college and her girlfriend's still in high school and they do cute stuff like make giant jars of luuuurve notes.

('scuse me for laughing but) ahahahahahha, this used to happen to me all the time! do you have a ring or a stud? rings don't seem to catch onto stuff nearly as often as studs do. if you do have a rind, make sure it's completely crimped closed. may the force be with you.

i like "notes in spanish." it's got the most boring name ever but is really good if you're looking for practice. remember those listening exercises you had to do in high school spanish? it's kind of like that if those were actually about things you cared about. a bilingual couple (the guy's from the uk, the chick's from spain) does it, so you get perspectives from a native spanish speaker and someone who's still learning.

honestly right now i think i've got to put a cap on it. everybody's already matched up with people of the age/language/other stuff that they wanted and we're just sending out emails to let people know who they're been partnered with. but there will be another chance! there will! it'll probably be in a few months after we're figured out a way to speed up the time between sending in your info and getting an actual pal.

Once I figure out a way that doesn't involve a two year long turn-around time, absolutely. I keep trying to come up with fancy plans involving spreadsheets and mail merges, but I just can't make it work yet. If you've got any ideas, I'm all ears/eyes.

Don't worry! You're going to be able to use them soon, I promise! Julia and I (but mostly Julia. You guys, she's amazing) have be sending out emails every day because we're so excited for you all to have buddies. I'm so so so sorry it's taken 8x longer than I expected, but I was only expecting there to be ~100 people who'd want to play pen pals with me and I got overwhelmed in the best way possible by how many of you wanted in.

most of the time i'm really cold. today i wore jeans and two shirts and a sweater to work and it's july and i'm in the northern hemisphere.

wishing and hoping and dreaming and praying are some of my favorite things to do, but they don't make somethings happen. in the wise words of dodge, grab life by the horns. it's a scary thing to do, but it's even scarier if you don't do it.
