i don't really know any comedians outside of those two places well enough to like or dislike them. i like Tommy Tiernan; he's from Ireland.

where do you live that you have to drive SIX hours to see Louis? what you should do is this: don't go to either shows, save your money and start making arrangements to move from wherever you're living.

I don't see this becoming a trend. Books are huge undertakings, and usually only happen when a publisher seeks out a comedian and not the other way around. And that only happens when a publisher knows that they 100 percent can make money off the author. So that means only well-known comics who have multiple venues to plug, promote and sell the product get those offers. There are exceptions, of course.

If a comic has an amazing story or is a naturally gifted writer, books deals may happen earlier in their career. Two good examples that I can think of off the top of my head: Moshe Kasher and Rob Delaney. Both are fairly early in their careers and both snagged book deals.

Moshe's story is amazing -- raised by two deaf parents, overcoming drug addiction, etc... -- and it's clear he can write. That he's a comic, I bet, didn't have much to do with him getting a deal to write a book, which, by the way, barely scratches the surface of his comedy career. That book exists because Kasher's life makes a compelling memoir.

Delaney's book isn't out yet. But he, too, has a great story about overcoming, among other things, alcoholism. And he's also a proven and gifted storyteller; if you've seen his one-man show or his regular stand-up or his columns on Vice, that becomes very clear. And it doesn't hurt that's he got nearly half a million VERY dedicated Twitter followers. Publishers look at all of those things when they ink a deal with a new author.

So, in short, I think you're still going to see T-Shirts, CDs and DVDs being sold at comedy shores with a very occasional book thrown in.

honestly, we'll probably never feature open mic-ers. it doesn't make much sense to cover comedians so incredibly early in their career.

yep. he's a great writer and performer. he's reliable. he isn't groundbreaking, but he'll never let an audience down.

i enjoy Nicolas Cage-- and not in an ironic way. i've watched The Rock (I own it on DVD) and Con-Air many times. And Raising Arizona was a staple for me as a youth. I even find those plot-hole-happy National Treasure movies entertaining, even though they're super corny.

if there is such thing as a "king of comedy," Mel Brooks is not it. i think he's great, but he's certainly not the greatest (or whatever a King status implies). also, i don't see comedy as some sort of monarchy. it's more like a parliamentary democracy-- like Finland.

i think its got amazing potential! Roseanne is the perfect candidate. she's an icon and trailblazer and simultaneously an incredibly polarizing figure in both her professional and personal life. she's made some bad decisions and has done some questionable things. there's plenty of joke fodder.

comedy central hasn't released the roasters' names but i have to imagine, they wouldn't have even booked Roseanne if they didn't already have a guarantee that John Goodman would be there. beyond that, i have to imagine most of the cast of Roseanne will be there, notably Sara Gilbert and especially, Johnny Galecki, who's gone on to huge success on The Big Bang Theory. since she's sort of entered the political world, there's even potential for politicians to be invited to roast her.

Probably not for awhile, since he just came out with his half hour special. If it happens at all, I'd imagine it'll be at least another year.

that's a tough question. I would like to think that after nearly seven years online (we were formerly Punchline Magazine) we've become the place comedy fans go to see which comedians -- of all genres -- are active and offering something of value to the world.

we've always tried hard to highlight a diverse sampling of comics-- so as far as how we influence people's "taste" in comedy, i don't think we promote one type of comic over another...we're just interested in making sure people know about the real working comics out there.

I totally agree, dude. He and I have similar hair for sure-- but the composition is slightly different. i would say my hair is thicker and lacks the ability to really appear "long," whereas his flows ever so slightly. My shit is just kinky.

From a business standpoint, they would be crazy not to. Their roasts always post high ratings. But, I don't know officially what their plans are.

i haven't seen Gregg in a long time, but i think he's an excellent comic-- a utility type of performer. very solid. never has a bad set (that i saw, anyway). jesse joyce is fantastic. he's an excellent joke writer and i appreciate the vulnerability of his comedy.
