Well....thanks for the compliment first of all! Saint Michael's College is a Catholic liberal arts college located in Colchester, Vermont. I absolutely love going to school here, and lucky for you, 51% of the student population is female! Please ask any other appropriate questions you may have about college life. Feel free to censor yourself. xoxo Kayley

Excellent question! When you get your orientation packet over the summer you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire for housing. You will be asked questions about your personal habits, if you are interested in Honors or GREAT housing, and (if available) if you would like a single. You are not guaranteed a single and sometimes you are given one based on a medical need.

This is real simple- Kayley is my first name, SMC is for Saint Michael's College of course, and 14 stands for 2014 the year when I graduate! Thanks for the question and please ask more!

Hi thanks for the question! First year students can only live in three buildings- Lyons, Ryan, or Joyce. You are sorted into the buildings depending on whether you are honors housing, GREAT housing, or regular housing. I loved living in Lyons in honors/GREAT housing. The quad is also a great place to live because it is a really central location! It's near Alliot, the academic buildings, the library, and the gym. In your sophomore year you can live in the suites, on north campus, in Founders, or in Alumni.

Hmmm, I actually do not like magic tricks! It may sound silly but I'm always stumped by them and it really frustrates me when I don't know how they are done! So given the choice of whether I would like to be a magicians assistant or not, I definitely choose NO! Thanks for the question, but feel free to ask me questions about living at Saint Michael's College or about college life in general!

Wow! That's a great picture!!!

It really depends on what kind of day I have ahead of me! Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays my first class is at 9:50. That means I wake up at 8:00, get ready in 30 minutes, go to breakfast, and then have a lot of time to get ready for class. I even have time in the morning to do some extra studying if I need to. Tuesdays and Thursdays my first class starts at 8:10, so I'm up at 7:00, head to breakfast at 7:30, and then head directly to class. So basically it takes me 30 minutes to get ready in the morning!! This plays an important factor in what times you should schedule future morning classes. I know that I can wake up on time for my 8:10 class, but some people need the extra sleep in the morning, so it is better to plan on taking afternoon classes. Hope this helps and feel free to ask me more questions!

It's funny because I was just talking about this with my friend Taylor! I am definitely a morning person, I am focused, awake, and ready to go. At night I am so tired! It's lucky I take classes in the morning then!!!

Saint Michael's definitely has a ton of school spirit. My friends and I started to go to the basketball games just for fun this year and we always had a great time rooting for the team! The games are always well attended no matter what day of the week they are scheduled to take place on! They always have great turn outs and the students make posters and wear SMC colors. You should definitely go to the different sporting events and see which ones you like to attend the best!

As far as having other students sleep over, I'm not aware of any rules. However, if you are having a friend or family member staying over at school you are required to have them check in with your Building Director and give them the time frame of when they are staying over. Your friend has to then spend the night in a room of another person of the same sex. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions!

I absolutely loved being a part of GREAT. No one ever judged me or thought of me badly because I was part of this program either. It gives students who are aware of the negative effects of alcohol a support system because you will be living in a section of the dorm that is strictly GREAT housing. I made many friends with students who lived in GREAT housing and never felt uncomfortable or out of place because of my decision. Students at Saint Michael's are very understanding and supportive when it comes to personal decisions and I always feel welcomed and respected at school. Thanks for the question and feel free to ask more!

During the first few days of my First Year Seminar we made name tags and introduced ourselves to the other students. It was still intimidating trying to remember each others' names, but I first made friends with the girl I sat next to, from there it's not so hard to try to talk to the other students. Group activities are also helpful, because you are "forced" to interact with the other students and you may make friends that way. Taylor and I met in FYS, however we really started to become friends when we both happened to be at a Knitting club meeting! Then, because we had the FYS in common, we started to hang out more and she then introduced me to my other best friend Alex!! Another girl in my FYS is named Gina and we were friendly then, but she was involved in the Wilderness Program and helped out with the ski trips, so it was nice to know someone then and to have help when it came to navigating Smuggs.
Thanks for the question and feel free to ask more. Just introduce yourself to people and don't be afraid to tell them about yourself- you may have a ton in common! -
I'm so happy you asked me about living in a Single! This past year I lived in a single in Lyons third floor north. It was absolutely the best decision I made for myself to choose to live in a single. Discard all the rumors that you won't make friends if you live in a single, or that's it's really lonely- you're in college! You're surrounded by people and you will make many friends! I started making friends with some of the girls who lived on my floor and from there I made friends with people in my classes and friends with their friends.
The single room has a bed, a large dresser, a built in closet with overhead storage, a built in desk with a drawer, a chair, and a cubby over the desk. My room was very spacious and I set it up so I could have enough space to have friends over and still feel comfortable. Also, my room was at the end of the hallway so I had a little "hallway" going to my room which was perfect for leaving my shoes outside of my door or my umbrella!
Hope this helps, and hope to see you around campus in the fall!

Alex the blogger is one of my BEST FRIENDS! She is such an amazing person! She is kind, understanding, fun, trust worthy, loyal, and always makes me laugh! We always have a ton of fun together, whether it is just watching our soap, One Life to Live, or drinking tea in Alliot on a Friday afternoon. I am such a lucky person to have met her and I know we will be friends forever.

This summer I am working at a drycleaners. I hope to go to the beach often and see movies at the theater. I really would like to read as many of the books I have set aside as possible. I hope your summer goes well and you have fun planning for your upcoming year at Saint Michael's!

The words I live by are "be yourself." I find that I make true and genuine friends when I am myself and don't pretend to be someone else. I have made seven best friends and many more extremely close friends here at SMC and I made them by showing them my true personality. At school next year, introduce yourself to people in your classes and on your floor. Have fun and make new friends!

I have seven best friends at Saint Mike's and many more very close friends. Each of them are special in their own ways, but they are all loving and caring. I find that all the students at Saint Mike's are extremely caring and friendly. I did not know anyone when I came to Saint Mike's but I had no trouble making friends. I started to eat meals with the girls on my floor at the beginning of the year and eventually I became friends with Taylor who was in my First Year Seminar and she introduced me to her friend Alex. Then Alex introduced us to our friends Marci, Megan, Katie, and Mary. Classes are a great way to meet people and make friends. I love all my girls and I can't imagine what my life would be like without them. It hasn't even been a week away from them and SMC and I miss them so much.

Hmmm, I'd have to say that our theme song is Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa. Our DJ Mitch played this song all the time at our basketball games and we would all sing along. But, we would substitute "Black" for "Purp" to make it more Saint Mike's themed.
"Yeah, uh huh, you know what it is
Purp and yellow, Purp and yellow,
Purp and yellow, Purp and yellow" -

The Quad (where the three freshmen dorms are and Alumni) is probably the best area to live in all of campus. It is in a central location to Alliot, the academic buildings, the library, and the gym. I sometimes even hear upper classmen say they wish they still lived in the freshmen dorms.
Hope this helps, and feel free to ask me any other questions you may have!
