I don't know if you've ever heard about the migration of monarch butterflies (orange and black). They actually fly from New England to Mexico for the winter. Anyway, one year when I was about 12, they passed through my neighborhood. There were thousands of them in the trees and flying all around. I remember catching some with a butterfly net and having them in jars (only about a dozen, please don't hate). It was really neat. I think they were around for three or four days. They only flocked in my neighborhood that one time, so they must not take the exact same route every year.
Maybe they're on the way back from Mexico now and passing through your area. I'm glad you got out hiking or whatever. :))
