I'm an Open Source zealot!
Questions Answered
Windows or OSX? ;-)
As much as I'd love to say "Neither" and dig my heels in, the honest truth is that if this were my only choice (and frankly, I can't see a situation where it ever would be), because there's enough Free and Open Source software to work on either platform to get what I need to do, done, and I'd be only mildly uncomfortable with both, the fact I can get to a UNIX shell easily on OSX means I'd probably go for that one.
What is art?
That's a hard question. Art is an exceptionally abstract concept. It's exposed in everything we do and around us. I imagine that everything from building design and furniture placement to programming and electronics could be considered art, although I would probably think that much of it should only be viewed from that perspective if the person creating it thinks of their creation in that way.
For example; look at the logo at the top of this page. Is it art? Someone has thought about the domain name they've registered - made the letters rm from "form" into a spring, and added a quotation bubble with the word me at the end. The selection of the domain name, albeit from a rapidly dwindling pool of available names. The selection of colours... this is all art, to a greater or lesser extent.
I guess, what I'm saying is, that anything which has been designed is, to my mind, art.
Are you ACTUALLY a Nice Guy?
I like to think so. I didn't pick this nick for myself, someone else chose it for me, but I thought it was appropriate, and so it's stuck.
I'd hope that people think of me as being a nice person - I try and help out where I can, and if I can't I'll try and direct people to an appropriate source if I know them. I'm aware that I can be pretty OTT when it comes to preaching about free software, open source, and community, but I'd also hope that if I'm going on about it too much that people know they can stop me or present their own views which I'll respect and discuss further.
have you heard of identica? I think it used to be called laconica
Hmmm... I seem to think so. Mind you, people are still using that legacy piece of crap called "Twitter" where you can't influence the way it's developed (it's not developed in the open, with the community it serves), so sadly I'm stuck having to check two systems - one with people I really am interested in reading about.... and Twitter. Oh well. Sometimes there's interesting stuff on Twitter.
Oh, and the software which runs identi.ca used to be called Laconica, it's now called StatusNet.
Where did you get your sparkly Stormtrooper helmet t-shirt from?
I bought it from the branch of "Next" at the Trafford Centre, but it's a product made by "Marc Ecko Enterprises" - It's out of stock, I checked. Sorry :(
Why can't you admit that Android is crap?
Crap in what way?
Android has been the best Mobile OS I've seen for a while, although, to be fair I've not yet taken a proper look at Maemo. It certainly beats hands-down the Windows Mobile OS, gives me much more in the way of freedom than the iPhone (as I can easily develop for it - and have, without needing to pay Apple any money for it, nor having to wait months for it to be rejected by the Apple dictatorship.) I hesitate to comment on any of the non-smartphone OS platforms, as I don't massively use them outside of work, and even there I only use it to *make calls*.
What one thing are you exceptionally bad at?
Saying No to stuff. Oh, and knowing my own limits. And knowing when to stop writing stuf... oh.
Would you rather own a luxury yacht or a private jet?
I'd rather a yacht than a jet, as I'm not really all that good with heights (or depth - depending on how you look at it). Of course, the Green aspect of jets don't really help either (but they're still out-weighed by Rockets To The Moon and Ocean Liners).
