I loved my Nikon setup but shooting here in Seattle can be rough with the low light venues so I wanted something more capable of handling the dark. My D700's did well but I wanted some more and the D800 wasn't the ideal camera for me (plus the back order is ridiculous). The 5d3's have all the features I was looking for (ISO, dual card slots, faster FPS, good AF) so my hope is that I won't have gear envy for the next 5 years or more. Plus, I'm really loving Canon's 50L. It's a beautiful lens, totally puts the Nikon version to shame.

I'd get up the day early and pull for a hotel room for both nights. Your couple should understand since it will reduce their stress level not having to worry about you showing up.

I ask for budget on my contact form so the immediacy of declaring their budget is a benefit IMO. We have to realize that wedding photography is quite expensive to most, especially in this economy. I know nothing about these people so the worst thing I can do is form some judgement about them based on the fact they're budgeting less than what I charge. I'd ask to have a conversation and talk about the wedding with all of them. Sometimes taking a cut in your margin is worth helping out a couple that may be dealing with some issue that's not apparent. I recently had a friend take on a budget wedding because the groom was suffering from cancer and they're budget was wiped out due to medical costs. So take that into consideration and get as much info as you can to see if it's the right kind of job for you, because only you will know.

I shoot a 16gb card in both of my bodies, and if I need overflow, I have about 10 8gb cards that I keep on me. Sometimes I might fill one of the 16's and end up shooting an extra card, but most of the time I can keep it to the two cards.

No. Could be a 1st gen iphone. I don't know their story and I'm not gonna be dick and make judgements before I have a better understanding of who these people are. If they sent me a gold plated request, I might change my ways.

Wife and kid. The other stuff is replaceable.

Most, no. I can get a good gauge of a couple's interest based on a limited amount of communication. I've had a few I thought I really connected with go with someone else. Thought of asking but I never want a couple to have to explain themselves, especially if it's price related. I always just say thanks and wish them the best :)

Not sure what you'd be expecting to learn from me but hit me at jeramie(at)shodalove.com and we can talk about it.

Jenny J is the best, hands down. Kristen Marie shot mine a while back and they're amazing. Too many to name, most people do a great job with them.

I do all of my raw processing in Lightroom. If an image somehow makes it into Photoshop for me, it will be already have been processed to fix any exposure issues.
-
Lightroom 3, tethered capture, only used for photobooths to show guests the images. There are other apps to do it as well.

I use Finder if I have folders I need to burn, Photomechanic if I just need files burned. Nothing fancy, although I'm sure they're better options.
-
CS5 Standard Design Suite. I use PS and InDesign a lot, Acrobat is handy, and I don't use Illustrator for anything.
