Great question! It's sometimes easier to just "have someone else do it," but that can be expensive and you can't always get exactly what you want. When you make something yourself, YOU control what it looks like, is made with and what it costs. It's also a great way to turn old, lifeless items into something new, exciting and unique.
There's a special kind of satisfaction and pride that can only come from using, wearing or showcasing something YOU made. -
Keep EVERYTHING! Well, maybe not everything, but things like fabric scraps, yarn bits, cardboard, empty duct tape rolls, loose buttons, partnerless socks, broken jewelry and key chain rings all come in handy for various DIY projects. Reuse, refashion, recycle, people! You'll quickly build a stash of supplies that didn't cost a ton of money.

Italy. My friend just spent a month there and listening to all her stories is making me want to go! Plus, I'm half Italian, so it seems like someplace I should go.
