Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They just don't do movies like that anymore. My generation is still waiting on their flying cars, by the way...
-
Not really and I'm allergic to most of it anyway.

Buy maybe ten or so acres and make as much of it self-sufficient and sustainable as possible. A mere one million would pretty much eat all that up, even though I would have a low to non-existant electric bill ever after.

I know some really talented people who are not 'rich and famous'. although some might be considered notorious :) They just do what they love and love what they do.
-
Well that's easy. I don't have a TV. But a computer can be a useful tool for many many things.

A refreshingly thougtful and aware young person. That if you go to college, you will take it seriously and not write your term papers in lol/text speak. (and yes, some try)

Alot, actually. I've worked hard to shape my life to being what it is today and I am very pleased with the results and enjoying the fruits of my labor. I work hard, but reward myself as well.

I guess I'm not a flowers-gettin' kinda girl. I have no problems picking my own though. It's gets me into nature, afterall.

What matters to me most is the integrity of the business or organization. I prefer working with a non-profit (as I currently do) but that is not automatic assurance of their integrity. It is hard, but getting underneath their PR front and seeing how a company really operates can be an eye opening education.
However, you often find values in non-profits for hiring and keeping employees that are non-existant in for-profit driven enterprises (including small businesses with trendy healthy or 'green' products). Non-profits have more stringent reporting, record-keeping and transparency requirements then even our governmental departments and agencies.
In the end, both large and small agencies, and large and small businesses are all prone to different types of abuses and ways to more easily cover or smooth over them. It all depends on if an entity walks the talk, instead of just hoping people only listen to the talk and don't pay much attention to the walk. -
Well, do they believe in me? Ok, really, sure. Why not. It's a big Universe and anything is possible and there are definetely (scientifically) unexplained events and circumstances.

Intolerance/Prejudice. Hard to seperate those. It is rare to see a person with a prejudice not act on it some way, not want to demean, seperate, or crimninalize that which they fear and/or hate. I would that people, when encountering another human being, would judge them upon their actions and the character of their heart and soul, rather then compare them to the last person they knew that was Pagan/gay/bi-racial/French... whatever have you that equals different from them. That is not always intolerance, but it is a prejudice, pre-judgement, and therefor blocks a person from truly understanding and learning about the other person as an individual with their own integrity seperate from whatever race, creed, nationality, or sexual orientation they happen to have.
In the words of the wise Desmond Tutu, "You could so easily have been an adherant of the faith that you are now denigrating, but for the fact that you were born here rather than there." -
First of all let me apologize. I've been traveling frequently the past few months and this slipped by me and I'm sure you've already decided what to do. However, I'll put this out there anyway as this may come up for others:
My personal choice would be to fully cast the circle the first day at the initiation of the spell, and call upon the blessing and guidance any Divine beings, guides or Gods you commonly work with. Do the action required to set the spell in motion, give an appropriate offering (this could be the libation during a Cakes and Wine) and then fully close the circle. Each of the remaining six days I would go back and call upon the same 'Beings' as before and briefy draw up energy and do the action required, then thank your Gods and repeat the same process. You may also opt to call upon the Elementals to witness and then thank them in closing the following six nights, but personally, I wouldn't cast the full circle. just give energy and renew blessings to whatever I am working on.
I don't know what path you practice, but in Traditional Wicca the Elementals are thought to be messengers to the Gods, and more intermediately available at times then the Goddess and God of a Wiccan Tradition. In most circles, they are called upon before a Diety is evoked or invoked. They are the gaurdians of the Circle, whereas Diety is involved in what goes on during and inside the Circle. If you want some basic protection or witness of what you're working on without the full ceremony of casting a formal Circle, then you may consider working with the Elementals. -
I don't have one. In my twenties going to the mall and getting things from Gloria's Secret or The Express meant getting pretty good quality items. These days, all the 'brands' and retailers are using the same outsourced cheap labor and the fabrics tend to be lower quality. Remember in the 80's when everyone wanted cashmere sweater? It wasn't a brand or designer, it was a hallmark of soft and luxurious garments.
I do shop at thrift shops and look for the quality of the item first. I've tried shopping at those discount places but most of the 'designer labels' are still pretty poor quality and for some reason there is little in my size. I also, since I save money on shopping thrifty, can sometimes afford something from a local/small-production designer. Most of these are well put together and sewn up tight, as well as being a unique piece you can't get at mainstream places and I don't have the talent to sew together myself.
I don't mean to knock the quality of the 'major brands', though. I mean, when I was 10 years old I couldn't sew worth a damn either. -
Hello,
I don't know of any events in the Marshall/Madison County area right off the top of my head, but you may be familiar with www.witchvox.com which will list events by state. You're most likely to find listings in April onward when we have better weather. Don't forget to check in TN, as well, I know there are some festivals not too far away from the state line. Mother Grove also has Goddess-worship oriented events on a fairly regular basis in Asheville.
Our Open Court is still open, so if you would like to look into that. We welcome solitaires as well as poeple who may want to join a coven.
This link will take you to the group's profile in Witchvox, so you can check out festivals and events too, while there:

Good luck and maybe we will meet soon. -
I would say go for it and see if you find any compatible groups in your area. Any good coven is going to have some kind of process for easing people into the group and allow ample time for both the person inquiring and the established members of the group before becoming committed to each other, to the coven. It is, really, much like dating, or courting.
Speaking of courting, many Wiccan groups have a more informal circle which gets together as well, often referred to as an open court or outer grove. Like with Highland Wilde, our Open Court focus is more on discussion topics, presentations, meditation exercises, and workshops to make your own items. There is no requirement that people from the Open Court dedicate to the inner coven, undergo initiations, etc.. But, if someone does want to do that, the Open Court provides the perfect informal setting to ease someone into the group.
There are other options, of course. Meet-ups and Yahoo groups have spawned groups of multi-tradition Pagans and solitaires that get together for everything from beer to ceremonies in many regions around NC. And Pagan and Pagan-friendly festivals and gatherings abound between here, Tn, and Ga (not so much in SC for some reason...) And classes and workshops at Pagan bookstores are a good way to see who is in the community.
And you may very well know this, but it's worth repeating for anyone who may come upon this: There is NO tradition, coven, or mentor out there that can offer special magical knowlege or experiences that make it worth being treated with anything less than basic human dignity and respect. Use your common sense and avoid anybody that demands an unfair exhange of money/resources, treats people poorly, is ridden with constant drama, or wants to dictacte every aspect of your Wiccan life and/or personal decisions.
Good luck! -
Well, one of them was getting my stuffed koala bear, I think for Chrismas? I do remember going into my parents bedroom and it was dark, but I could see my presents beside their bed. So, actually, that must have been a birthday. Anyway I think that may have been my second birthday.

First let me say that I am definitely for equal religious treatment in all institutions, including correctional ones. However, this is a frivolous request and even those of us who are not being punished for committing crimes have to budget our time and resources. I would love to attend a sweat lodge, but in many cases money, travel, and possibly an association in a particular tribe would be required.
Another consideration is that these items are not even integral to the practice of Wicca. Sure, a Wiccan with Native ties in their family may choose to incorporate, and find great spiritual guidance from either of these practices. But they are not necessary to practice Wicca. Many Wiccan and other Pagan practitioners who are incarcerated must make amends due to the fact that they are doing their time in prison. Ceremonial blades, which are a basic and central tool in many Pagan paths, are simply not allowed.
What it comes down to for many Pagan prisoners is an opportunity to study, meditate, observe, and sometimes gather together in recognition of their spiritual paths. Fancy rituals and fancy items are not necessary for this to occur. The symbolism that these items impart can be conveyed with simpler and allowable materials. Afterall, resourcefulness is also a value in many Pagan religions. If any of these basic rights are denied, then we have a problem of discrimination, most especially if prisoners of other religions are being treated with more favor.
But in the case of the request for sweat lodges and raw meat, there is no case for discrimination. -
It is a very common association, and I know many Wiccans and other Pagans who love cats! But there are many who also have and love dogs, or other sorts of pets, even. Hecate, who is a common matron Goddess among Witches, is associated with docile hounds.
