Hmm, that's a toughie! I have some from several sessions each month that I just fall in love with. But if I had to choose one, it'd probably be a studio shot of my daughter that just sings to my soul each time I look at it.

ooh, getting deep on me! I would probably want to to go Rome. I think that shooting against all of the old architecture there and on the cobblestones streets would be awesome.

My photography friends will laugh when they read this b/c I am a bit of a lab whore! I use lots of different labs depending on if I'm just ordering prints, or if it's a gallery wrapped canvas, or press printed cards, etc. I use several different professional labs from around the country. MPIX is a great consumer lab that has lots of different options.

      Thank you!

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II and have a Canon 40D as a back-up. I shoot with various lenses depending on the situation.

There are tons of great online tutorials for learning CS4. Just jump in head first, read, and practice, practice, practice!

He's pretty crafty. I just tell him my vision, buy the artsy supplies (fabric or tiles, etc) and then he goes to town! These last two are constructed using plywood (maybe that's not the right term for it, but close enough!), liquid name, and a staple gun. FUN times!

Everywhere! I'm constantly on the look out for new blanket or fabric to use as backgrounds. I've found them everywhere from Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, JoAnns, Target, to local yard sales!

One day I would like to buy about 5 acres of land and build a small studio on it with lots of outdoor set-ups! It'd be nice to have a studio close enough to walk to every day for work!

I like the rate at which my biz is growing. Practically all of my new clients are referrals from current clients (thank you!) or from web searches. I know that I could find lots more clients with the proper marketing channels, but I'm just not ready for that quite yet. I want to enjoy this time with my babies while they are still young. Maybe once the youngest is in kindergarten, I'll really start trying to market more. I never want to get so big though that I don't know what is going on with my own company. I love getting to know each and everyone of my clients - so much that I can't image having employee photographers take pictures of MY clients! :)

Thank you! It's definitely not out of the question, but it would be something that won't happen in the near future. I'm still learning new things all the time myself!

I have toyed with the idea of hosting a class for parents that teaches simple techniques to take better snapshots of your children. I think that would be fun!

My business started as a hobby that turned into a passion. I was lucky to have friends that were willing to hand over their children as guinea pigs! I bought my first DSLR when my daugher had just turned one. At first, I shot everything on Auto and thought that my pictures were the BEST ever! Now, I looked back at those early days and cringe! Horrible lighting, shadows, bright spots, out of focus images, etc. After practicing on my own for a while, I found some excellent photography forums online that gave me honest criticism on my images which was really eye opening. From that point on, I've read everything I can get my hands on, put in uncountable hours studying and practicing all aspects of photography. Learning photography is like learning a new language.

When I went on maternity leave with my son two years ago, my husband and I made the very hard decision that I'd take a year off teaching and give photography a go full time. It was definitely a leap of faith, but I'm so thankful I did it! I love my job so much. That's not to say that it doesn't come without sacrifices. There are many nights that I put my kids to bed and immediately begin editing and finally go to bed around 2 in the morning. There are many days that my kids watch entirely too much tv b/c I have a deadline to meet. There are days that my husband feels like he's a single father b/c I'm working so much. There is so much more to photography than just the photo session. Actually that's the easy part! It's the behind the scenes stuff after the session that is so time-consuming.

And so to answer the question "was it hard at firt?" It's still hard! Very, very hard. It's definitely a challenge to separate family life and work when you work from home. Each week, I start with goals for that week, but as all my clients know (and understand!) life has it's little hiccups. Especially with a 4.5 and 2 year old! But in the end, it's all worth it b/c I absolutely LOVE what I get to do everyday!

Definitely strangers! The more you know someone (especially children) the less they listen to you. I constantly have parents say to me "My kids run from me when I get the camera out. How do you get them to interact with you?" Guess what? MY kids run from ME when I get my camera out too! Why? B/c they know me and they know that they can! When client's children, I'm someone new and someone that they want to impress and become friends with, so they listen. Really good. They (9 times out of 10) do exactly what I ask b/c they want to make me happy because I'm a new friend - not someone they see every day.

With friends and family (even adults) this newness isn't there, so it makes it harder to get genuine smiles b/c they've all heard my jokes before or seen my silly dances.

That being said, there is something extra special about capturing gorgeous memories for the special people in my life!

right now - True Blood, but Modern Family comes in a close second - I literally laugh out loud at that show!

All time - I'd have to say Friends.

funny question - i don't remember now! the idea of a photography biz started tumbling around in this noggin of mine about 4 years ago while I was still teaching. I taught 5th grade where we had a very important writing assessment test. One of the techniques I taught my kiddos was alliteration (in short having the same beginning sounds of words close together to help with the rhythm of your writing). For example, rosy red, outstanding orange, brilliant blue, etc. I'm sure that had something to do with Frogs and Faeries Photography - all having the "F" sound. But honestly, I don't remember the moment that I decided on it! I do know that I didn't like how www.frogsandfairiesphotography.com looked with the two "i"s back to back so I used the alternate spelling of Faeries. Still kills my hubby to this day!

Oooh, that's a loaded question! I have lots and lots of photographers who inspire me - for newborns - Carrie Sandoval, Kelley Ryden, Little Moon, and my very good friends, KeriLynn Photography and Jessica Washburn of Small Moments Photography.

For families - Pastel Photography - she is amazing. And another friend - Tiffany Burke of ART Photography.

For weddings - bobbi+mike, jasmine starr, red leaf studios, etc.

And most importantly and on a daily basis, I have a wonderful group of flickr friends who support me and let me gripe while inspiring me with all of their amazing work.

On a personal level - my grandfather who my son is named after. I have never met a nicer, more giving and caring man than him. I know there is a special seat right next to Jesus for him. I love you, PawPaw!

Hmm . . . this is a tough one considering I'm not athletic at all (have you seen me lately??). I guess I'd have to say boxing so that I could take out my daily aggressions on someone's face! ;)
