Wow, that's a really good and hard question. I'd say it's either Chrono Trigger or Lufia II.

Both have characters you fall in love with, and want to see what happens with to the end.

Chrono Trigger has that whole time-travelling bit that is so intriguing and interesting that makes the game amazing. The main character dies at one point, and the others are in a conflict where one wants to let Chrono stay dead and continue their quest, while most of the others want to resurrect him. You also have that part where one of the main villains of the story joins your battle to stop the ultimate force, which is really awesome.

In Lufia II you have the 4 sinistrals who wants to take over the world, and the heroes who wants to stop them. You have the ultimate love-triangle with Maxim, Selan and Tia, aswell as the friendly rivalry between Dekar and Guy. The story of the game lacks a little bit I think, but it is still enough to be one of my favorite storylines of any game.

I think I need to give it to Chrono Trigger though. It's just so intriguing the entire game through, and you will be mesmerized.

When it comes to characters, I must give it to Lufia II, even though I love Frog the most of all. But then again, that wasn't really your question.

Conclusion: Chrono Trigger has better storyline, while Lufia II has the best characters.

Then again, this is about storyline, not character :3

This is a really good question. Some of the people I watch, I watch purely because of the commentary. If there are two or more people commentating, I watch it for the chemistry between these people. If it doesn't work, I don't watch it.

I can't really think of any pet-peeves though... I'm sure there are plenty.
