Do you also think that 'American Girls' was the wrong single to set Hard Candy off with, as maybe it didn't reflect the essence of the record as a whole? I often wonder if you'd kicked off with 'Hard candy' itself, things would've been different.
I think "American Girls" reflected the essence of the record but it was the wrong single because people didn't really hear the song. It's like "Born In The USA", which a lot of people heard as an anthem of Reagan-esque positivity. I think that song actually is an extremely patriotic song, just not exactly the way people heard it. "American Girls" is probably the nastiest song I've ever written but it comes off like "California Girls" to some people. That's my fault, I guess. I thought making the music celebratory when the song is an admission/condemnation of misogynistic behavior would make it even nastier but it doesn't come across. So...yeah, I agree. "Hard Candy" would have been a much better choice. Actually, the larger problem was that radio was really time-strict at that time. Songs needed to be 3:30-3:45 and nothing on HARD CANDY fit that. "Hard Candy", "Miami", "American Girls, and "Up All NIght" are all 4:30 or 5min long.

Who is the best player in the NBA? Kevin Durant or the wrong answer?
Right now, I'm kinda leaning towards Mr. Durant. If he's not, he's going to be. Shockingly good for his age and his D is really picking up now.
