Re: Zipf's law, I'm thinking of oil fields. If the cap rock on the largest field would have suddenly started leaking 1mm years ago, Zipf's law doesn't apply, but if it didn't it would. Can't get my mind around that. Z's law gen applies to oil fields.
I haven't really seen it in that context, though some cursory research indicates that you're right. I really don't know why that would be. Ask a petrogeologist?
