Diwali is on the 5th November and is perhaps the most well-known of the Hindu festivals.

The word Diwali means 'rows of lighted lamps'. Diwali is known as the 'festival of lights' because houses, shops and public places are decorated with small earthenware oil lamps called diyas.

A Dorset based group Saaz Aur Awaaz is holding celebrations at the Queens Hotel on the 20th November which is open for all to attend subject to prior booking.

For more information or to book tickets please contact Kuldeep Benepal on 07860619487 or email saazaurawaaz@hotmail.co.uk

Mela is a Sanskrit word meaning 'gathering' or 'to meet' or a Fair. It is used in the Indian subcontinent for all sizes of gathering and can be religious, commercial, cultural or sports.

Bournemouth's first Mela is going to be held this weekend, why not come along and join in the festivities!
