Because I've been through it all. I know what it's like to hate yourself. I know what it's like to want to die because you don't feel good enough to deserve to live. I know the extent of how shitty you can feel because someone tells you you're ugly, or that you're a bad person. It stick with you, you never forget it. Words can kill, but they can also save lives. Through elementary and middle school I was beaten up, bullied, called names, locked in the bathrooms, held under the shower water until I couldn't breathe. School was hell for me and so was my home life. Up until I was 14, my father repetitively tortured me and my mother turned her back and left the room. My uncle abused me while my father watched. My cousins pushed me down flights of stairs and made me crawl home on my hands and knees. Suffice to say my self confidence wasn't at its peak. When I finally got away to America, I still didn't feel good enough. For a few years I drank, took drugs, slept around. None of it ever made me feel better. Then I started getting abused in one of the youth hostels too, and eventually I snapped. I told myself that I wouldn't let myself keep going down that road and I worked my ass off to be the person I always wanted to be. I got part-time jobs, I came clean of all the drugs and alcohol, I went to school, made friends, had girlfriends and boyfriends. Then I went to college, and met Noah. He introduced me into what a real family was like. I mean it wasn't perfect. Noah's adopted and his father has major medical problems that affect his life. But they're a proper family. They're happy, and I'd never had that before. The reason I'm so passionate about making people feel like they're worth something is because I almost lost my life to my lack of confidence. And I know from experience that if you try hard enough and have some help along the way, that you can beat it and become the person you want to be. You can be happy, no matter what you've been through. And I want everyone to know that they're worth everything, because I never got told that back then, and I wish I had. I want to help people avoid what I went through with myself.
