Punishing people isn't the solution. Hurting others should only be used in the most extreme circumstances. Like if someone is trying to beat you with a bat, it would be reasonable to defend yourself, you should try to avoid injury on both sides. If someone rapes another person, though that's a terrible locking them in a cage, torturing or even killing them doesn't take back the loss, nor does it prevent it from happening again. We've got to use our minds along with hearts and be as empathetic as possible to find any sort of progress regarding the safety and health of ALL people. Many things that are considered a crime shouldn't be. That being said we would first have to have a massive political and economic overhaul.
