I don't think he's had parents that understand the developmental effects compression, I don't think he knows to look out for that kinda thing or has been enlightened about it.

I drew the character, and it's really fun to draw, the shapes are nice.

You could do small things like simplify the hairline and make sure that lines on his face all work with a sense of volume overlap, but I would say to forget that for now and try to draw the character in 3/4 front view, profile, 3/4 back, and back. That will help solve how that character looks all the way around, which will help you fully design it.

I'm in my phone so I can't link it, but there is a video of Ben Adams, Reg Show character designer, showing how to do a turn around and it's pretty easily explained.

I feel like they never said it very much to begin with. At most it's been 4 or 5 times in various incarnations, I think. (Maybe more)

I think it's mostly marketing that uses that, at least that's where I hear it the most, like before youtube clips and various promotional stuffs.
