Don't you think cosplay evolving into perfection, moving away from being a nerd hobby, is a good thing? You are a shining example that we cosplayers are not fat and ugly. Doesn't it feel good to be beautiful?
No, I don't agree. It's a nerd hobby, first and foremost. It's done by nerds, appreciated by nerds, and exclusively understood by nerds. If it were for mass consumption, it wouldn't be cosplay anymore. It would just devolve into generic sexualized costumes that don't represent a character and instead represent a fetish. That's the only way it could become truly mainstream.
Might as well all go out and buy those trashy costume in a bags they sell at halloween and call that cosplay. The hobby has no business moving away from the fans that make it happen.
Secondly, even if I'm somewhat attractive to some people, that fact is not that high on my lists of sources for my own self esteem. I'm capable of so much more than cosplay, and so are a lot of cosplayers. It's my hobby, and it's not something I do so I can have people tell me they think I'm good looking. I have normal people tell me that out of costume, and usually it's awkward. I do it to enjoy myself, to represent my interests, and for the theatrical nature of it. Looks are temporary. Looks aren't a skill. Looks don't make you a better person. Your actions and your talents do. So, no, it doesn't "feel good to be beautiful". I have ambition, ability and a reasonable amount of intelligence. That's what feels good. -

Do you get a rush out of cosplay?
Yeah, absolutely. It's from nerves. It gives me a big adrenaline rush when I get out of the hotel room and down to the convention. The nervousness I always feel getting ready makes that possible. It's my occasional dose of excitement and that is probably part of why I do it. The adrenaline kick is fun.

That is a very good answer there. But yeah I guess with life you just have to try to ignore those negative people and trolls and just keep doing your own thing if it makes you happy. Is that what everyone should do, that is ignore and just live life.
Right :) In most cases, yes, we all should just live and carry on as you would regardless of if people are mean or not. It's not worth letting it impede your happiness.

Like ET? No. Sure, there might be something out on some other planet in some other solar system that constitutes alien life, but it all probably frightening amoeba looking things or stuff that looks like the terrifying stuff at the bottom of the ocean.
