Because one day years and years ago, an elephant was being fed peanuts by a man who at the same time was putting together a package to send to his mother. In the package he put the little Styrofoam pieces, but the elephant mistook them for peanuts. This man....WAS THE CREATOR OF ALL STYROFOAM PIECES EVAR! Thus he named them peanuts.
