      Not really, because I find that if you base a character off of one of your friends/acquaintances you're not going to be able to be genuine in painting the dark or undesirable side of them. In a story that's some paramount shit. In a gag comic not as much. But comics where it's just a bunch of chums going around like "lol I can't take you guys anywhere, you're so embarrassing! ^_^;;" are effing stupid anyway.
      Different characters will often take from my own experiences or parts of my own psyche though. Rittz being a fat kid is something of mine, so is Skip's general coldness and stoic nature. Chuck's fashions and less-than-macho nature are also from me. Billy really has nothing of "me" in him, which is why I had some trouble integrating him into casual scenes in the beginning. His role was always set but his character I had to find over time.

      Yes, key phrases are important. As long as you can say "Where are my keys?" and "I am the master of unlocking" you will be alright.
