I started when I was about 15 years old. I just didn't like the translations. I started learning English when I was very very young so I didn't really have any difficulties. But I have to say at the beginning I would have to look up a few words...my advice: if you want to start just start :) Don't be afraid, you can always start with easier books and work your way up. Also, you will get better through reading.
