Hey Daryl, no never tried it. A friend did and he got chronic hand-tremors and also put on loads of weight. My hand-tremors are bad enough (sucks for photography) from lamictal without lithium, so don't think I'll ever go that route.

hey Sorry to hear where you at - I don't promise any solutions, all i can relay is something that Winston Churchill once said:

"if you are going through hell - keep going"

Yes, there is definitely still a stigma with BiPolar, which is why I keep my bipolar blog anonymous. Thankfully the stigma is a heck of a lot less than 100 years ago, but I don't think it will ever go away. The best way to nuetralise it is to show the non-bipolar world that we have unique gifts that they don't (despite our "shortcomings")

To a degree yes. As with all things its not an EITHER bipolar OR not bipolar. Rather it is a spectrum and we all hover at different points on the spectrum. At our end of the spectrum we get labelled bipolar. Total lack of mood swing would render you a machine.

No magic pills I'm afraid. But, as a Neurologist recently said to me - stress, any kind of stress, will exacerbate tremors, so I'm sure any kind of de-stressing activities (like meditation) will help. In my case I'm finding that just making peace with the fact that I'm shaky goes a long way.

No, I'm not single. Remember that "bipolar" is just a label that a Pdoc has put on you. It is not you. You don't need to broadcast your bipolar to every first date. But after a few dates, and if you think its going to go further, its important to tell yr partner. If they don't like it, then the relationship is not going anywhere anyway.

Depends on your definition of "cope". I suppose if you are alive, rather than dead, you are already coping on a certain level.

Yes, I saw the movie Mr Jones when it came out (many years ago), and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought Richard Gere acted out the mania & depression very well. But bipolar comes in many forms and manifests in many ways, so i wouldn't use Gere's behaviour as the benchmark for diagnosis.

I've heard people who have lost all of their possessions in one shot (like a fire for example), say that in a way the experience was incredibly liberating. Its hard to understand, but there are many who have said that. I think losing your mind falls in the same category. Providing you get it back)
